I need to vent at people who will understand!

Do you all remember about a month ago, I found a little boy bunny that I called Tom Sawyer? I put up posters and found his owners. I just saw another found poster and he was the rabbit in the picture. How do these people keep losing him? Clearly the little girl doesn’t care much for him. It is taking everything I have not to call the people who found him and claim him.

Thanks in advance for understanding my frustration with this.

Are they letting him play outside? I guess I don’t understand how he could keep escaping either.

They said that they had a hutch outside for him to play in on nice days and that they guessed the door just didnt get latched well enough. They said it had happened a few times before but he always came back home. I am just so worried that the next time he gets out… he is just such a trusting little guy… he might get picked up by the wrong people. Not to mention the wild dogs and cats and the highway we live on!!! I think I am going to start crying….

You could call the people that found them to let them know who that bunny belongs to.  This person who found them obviously cares about bunnies too so maybe as “concerned” neighbors, you can approach these people together and just try to talk to to them about securing their place better for the very reason you just stated to us.    Maybe coming from a couple of neighbors that they need to provide a safe secure place, they will make the changes they need to.

I would also talk to the local humane society and find out what their suggestion would be with such an irresponsible neighbor.

Honestly – and this isn’t “right” but – I’d be really really tempted to call whoever found him and just claim him. Like I said it’s not “right” but, I’d still be tempted.

I wouldn’t claim him – it sets you up for trouble since the family might see the poster then want to know who claimed their rabbit and if they have any documents as proof of ownership, well…

But you could discuss ways to help them secure that outdoor hutch so he can’t escape again. And maybe talk to local vets and shelters to find out what legal actions are available, maybe you could get him removed due to being a “nuisance” to the neighborhood and then adopt him ?

That is so horrible! How irresponsible. If you loved your animal you wouldn’t be so careless. That poor little bunny, he needs them to protect him. I would definitely talk to the owners. Tell them that you are willing to take him in because you don’t want him to end up dead on the road.

Oh my gosh, I don’t understand how they could keep allowing that to happen. I would never ever trust that a rabbit could just make its way home, especially with all the dangers. I would hope that there is something that could be done to stop that kind of neglect. I think the best thing would be is to talk to the owners first, they may just give him up to because they won’t mind him being gone.

I also vote for the politically incorrect “claim him” option.
