As someone who has spent a lot of money on vet bills for a rabbit that is seriously ill…
It is my opinion that it is always better to be safe than sorry.
Snuffles can be very serious and hard to get rid of. It can start off looking like a simple cold, then progress to other parts of the body which can then be fatal or very expensive to diagnose and treat. If you catch whatever it is early, you might save yourself a whole lot of money and heart break.
My recommendation is to go straight to an exotics vet…someone who specializes specifically in rabbits and other small animals. I took my rabbit to two other vets before doing this and ended up wasting money and valuable time in my rabbit’s recovery. Regular veterinarians might claim to have experience with rabbits, and they might but they just don’t know enough about the species to properly treat them imo. I second what the person above me said, in that you may have to travel to find this. I had to travel a distance to see my exotics vet. In the end, choosing this type of vet can prove more cost efficient because they have more knowledge in what to test for and try versus taking measures that might not be necessary.
From my experience, home remedies are a lovely idea and they can certainly help to supplement medical treatment…but they will never ever take the place of medical treatment. This is coming from personal experience with my own ailments in the past as well as family members who refused to go to doctors due to their spiritual beliefs.
Did your rabbit play with the other bunny that you know? In this case it might have caught something contagious.
I don’t mean to sound harsh. Just trying to help. Good luck.
