Skittish bunny?

I’m just wondering if anyone has/had shy, skittish rabbits.

on New Year’s Eve, it’ll be a year since I got Loki. I’m just wondering why he always seems so scared. I’m starting to think maybe it’s just his personality.  It’s just weird because when he’s in his cage, I can reach in and pet him anywhere really, and he loves it! He’ll purr, and fall asleep, but when’s he’s out of his cage, it’s a totally different story. He very rarely lets me touch him the littlest bit. He gets to go in and out of his cage as he pleases. If I have pellets he’ll stay right by my side, but as soon as I go in for a pet, he darts and stares at me like he’s scared! Once in a while I can get a few pets in. Sometimes when he runs away he’ll thump his feet a few times too. It’s a little disappointing because he’s been like this for so long i’m starting to wonder if he’ll ever let me socialize with him! I get so jealous hearing people talking about their affectionate bunnies  He’s part lion head, and either english spot or rhinelander. (they look so alike it’s hard to tell) I don’t know if maybe certain breeds just act differently.

yes! he was about 2-3 months!

Oh okay, I was going to suggest a traumatic experience may have occurred with a previous owner outside his cage but that doesn’t fly if you’ve had him from the beginning.

Mine really aren’t all that friendly either. I have had BB for a year and a half. He doesn’t have issues with petting on his terms, he isn’t a lap bunny for sure.

Josephine is more the nails in the ceiling at the drop of a pin or turn of the doorknob…if she is upset or scared she will thump her foot until I address it and even then she tends to be skeptical. I’ve only had her since May, she wasn’t fond of any contact beyond washing my face when she came. I lay on the floor with them and they jump on me but again I doubt they will be lap bunnies, ever.

I don’t know for certain if she is Britannia Petite but they are known for being high strung ( according to the breed page ). Even the vet said she is high strung..freaking adorable, but high strung

it’s funny because Loki’s personality does not at all match up with what i’ve read online.

most people say their lionheads are afraid of nothing; Loki is like Josephine- one sound will have him in a frozen stance. I’ve kind of come to a conclusion that Loki will never be that cuddly bun unfortunately! He’s getting a little better with the petting, I have been trying to go about petting him in more of a way that won’t scare him as much (petting from the top, keeping my hands away from the front of his face) He’s a very moody little boy.  some days he doesn’t mind being touched, other days he’ll grunt and swat me away!

Luckily I’ve only been growled at once ! She likes to dig and chew the blanket on the couch and had pulled it out, so I went to tuck it back in..I don’t think a rattler could move as fast as she did..needless to say I was bleeding after a few minutes. Her little sides were heaving and all I could do is ask her if she was okay. Yesterday I leaned over the couch during the same activity and she attacked my hair :/

I hear you on the moody, though she is only nuts during that activity.

jeez! Yeah Loki is quite the chewer himself. Everyone talks about having beds and blankets for there rabbits.. but Loki would DESTROY them hahahaha. he destroys anything and everything in his way! Same for toys, I would love to give him some plastic keys…. or little balls with bells in them… but he would destroy them and try to eat them! So I could never leave things like that in his cage with him when i’m at work

Yeah, that blanket isn’t long for this world at the rate she digs in it, but I’ll just get another. Beats the holes she puts in the couch !
