situation with cords

After realizing how tempting cords are for the buns I knew I had to address this seriously because Queen already had a close call and can’t resist laptop cords. She actually sits next to me and lunges for it often and sometimes I have to push her kinda hard to get her off me to let go of it. She didn’t learn the first time she bit through one. I covered or hid all the cords in the room as best as I can.

If I would have known I was going to end up with buns I would have bought a completely different bed but I bought it right before them and it’s one of those beds that is electric base to rise/lower and vibrate, etc. Tons of cords.

My eldest and I spent considerable time under the bed covering them as best as we can with those plastic covers from the hardware store. Last night I figured a cord check was probably due and I went through everything and all looked good in the room until I found a piece that one of these buns chewed about 2 inches of the plastic covering off of. For temp, I duct taped everything to the underside so they don’t see the cords much at the moment but this won’t work long term. What can I do now? Is there a plan B item to cover cords?

The only other option I can think of is to take some leftover white fencing material we have from building a deck last summer- the stuff you put around the bottom to keep animals in and out, and build a fence around the underside of the bed.

That would be alot of work and I can’t do it myself because it requires cutting with tools I’m not familiar with- but maybe hubs would do it for me whenever he gets to come home next or possibly my son.

You can use NIC grids to block off the underside of the bed.

My son has a bunch of boxes and storage bins under his bed, and a bunch of cords between the bed and the wall. It’s like the ultimate wired bunny cave. We pretty much made a one grid tall wall around the bed to keep Kieko out from under there — she made it under there a few times before we put the grids up and it took three of us to get her out, all the while with her running from spot to spot between cords.

I used NIC grids around my guest bed when we had one of our rabbits living in there it worked wonderfully.

I just hooked a few together to test it out as far as height/width goes and it does have a problem with this bed.
When the bed is raised, which is often when we are in the room, it actually has a huge open gap that would require the fencing to be at least 2 grids high at the head, which is level with the top of my bed when flat.
Hubs said no way to putting the bed “in” the cage but if the whole room is the cage, I think it would be a mute point.

This gonna take a lot of cubes. I guess I dont really need the big cage though since they are never locked in it anyway. At this point I’m trying to keep them in the room and not roaming the whole house. Can keep a small condo just big enough for them to be in for a few hours if needed.

Spolied buns. Ridiculously spoiled.

I see another problem, they can climb back there from top of bed. There’s a gap, my headboard isn’t solid, it’s iron twists. :/

I have an idea. Hubs is going to try to come home this weekend and take a look.
If I have a piece of plywood or some sort of barrier, I can cover over the underside like how it would be if I had a flat box spring.

I may even be able to use left over linoleum from a bathroom job we did. Just something to act as barrier.
