I adopted Simba from a family that was no longer taking care of her 2 weeks ago.

Most of what I know about her is approximated. She was apparently bought from PetCo 7-8 years ago when they used to still sell rabbits. She has a breeder’s tattoo on her ear. Also not particularly sure she’s a female, I can literally check and double check but until I get a vet to sex her for sure, I will continue to say I truly don’t know. The family seems sure she was altered when they got her (they said there was paperwork and she was particularly expensive but who really knows). I am lead to believe she is altered though because she is already bonded with my other bunny Sherlock who is definitely neutered.

When I got her she was very dirty, had mats in her mane and a huge urine mat on her bum. I spent about an hour getting the massive urine mat out only to see she a urine burn on her stomach and a small open sore. That was the 3rd day I had her and she is doing wonderfully now. Her fur is already so much redder than when I first got her. She was also extremely overweight and was not eating her cecotrophs because of it so obviously she’s on a diet now. Her poos were so minuscule when I got her, but they are steadily becoming darker and larger. I’ve been trying to coax more veggies in her. She was really reluctant to drink water too so when she would pee it would be drops of bright orange almost red urine. She has a couple bowls of water now and her urine has become a more acceptable consistency.

She’s lived in a wire bottom cage her entire life. It was way to small, she could barely stand upright in it. One of her toes was broken and healed completely wrong and she’s lost fur around her eyes from not having them cleaned properly. However, Simba is a frisky, happy bunny. She loves being let out to do short bunny zooms (she gets tired really fast) and loves to chin things. She’s taught Sherlock how to play with toys and he is teaching her how to snuggle and trust us. She’s a lovely bunny and has adjusted quickly and I expect the last years of her life to be amazing for her.
