Many bunnies will soon begin molting — some do explosion molts with tuffs of fur sticking out from everywhere, others are marathon molters- slow steady causing nose itching madness, and some bunnies molt in definite patterns, leaving defined lines resembling a world map!
New bunny owners sometimes think something’s wrong with their bunny, while even veterans can get overwhelmed with the amount of hair comes of off of their molting bunny. So BinkyBunny is creating educational page dedicated to Molting bunnies. We need your best molting mania madness photos that we can feature on that page. Also, if you have any tips or advice on how you handle it, be sure to add that to your post and we may include those in as well.
To start things off, here is a photo from a while back of Vivian (and her alter ego — aka: all her molted fur from one brushing! Needless to say, she is an explosion molter!)

Hi BB! I see you already have a picture of Henry sitting next to your beautiful Vivian – don’t they look lovely together, ha ha ha…..
Seriously, Henry (mini lop) is a constant moulter – I’m sure I’m the only BBer that doesn’t like patting their bunny, as when I finish I end up with a furry/fluffy glove! And sorry that I can’t add a photo – I never thought to take one of him going through his ratty tatty super moult stage, I didn’t want proof of what could be used against me as bunny abuse, LOL! Henry does look good now, but even a nose rub on his face leaves me with a moustache and a beard (I’m a girl – not a good look people!) and blowing my nose. I daydream of vacuuming Henry – a girl can dream…. can’t she????? Cheers.
I have some great photos BB. I will add tommarow after work. ![]()
We’ll see…… (ha ha haha LEL).
And Henri thats funny. Cotton is shedding heavy. I get a noseful of hair and hair on my food. I can’t pet hi and rub my face I get hair all over. Of course he still gets his luvins n pettings upon demand. Just no face touching or I wear is hair.
I will try and remember to get a pick of his hair taken from the hairbuster comb today.
Bumpy stay in a constant state of shedding, except for his head, that seems to loosen up every couple months or so. He enjoys me pulling it out in little tufts, which leave him looking odd.

Sorry no pictures Cotton is done shedding.
@manic muncher – I’m jealous! You are lucky that he likes the tuff pulling. Everytime I see those tuffs, I have the urge to pull those out too, and none of my bunnies liked it (and I am gentle!).
@AndHenry – FUNNY. Well, we know you are no bunny abuser. It’s the other way around, this molting is nose itching human abuse. Make my nose itch just thinking about it.
@LongEaredLions – Can’t wait to see them!
@BunnyTowne – “just no face touching or I wear his hair” LOL!! That’s funny. so true. Yes, would love to see a photo — even before brushing, of cotton, if he looks all molty and discombobulated.
Aw man, I had a big ol pile of Lily fluff that I just threw away. Though I did try to get a picture of it, which didn’t turn out.
I’m certain if my rabbits could talk, they’d name me a mother-plucker extraordinaire. I’m a bit obsessive/compulsive about it if I discover loose fur while petting them. I just keep pulling more & more. Afterward, they look terrible and I regret having done it.
Ill have to go through my older pictures. I know I’ve taken snapshots on occasion.
“Discombobulated”; very cool word BB! Ironic it contains the word comb in it also. Maybe it’s we become dis-comb-obligated after we receive major bunny disapproval for taking their loose fur.
ETA: I just love that angle of the shot of Vivian. So cute!
My two are actually not that bad when they molt. Powder sheds 24/7 365, so he’s constantly furring up the place, there isn’t really a bad molt with him since he’s a constant shedder. And Stickers is a rex, so a wet hand petting her is enough to handle her molt.
Is this how I get so many bunnies?

Ox was a weirdo and started his full on molt at the end of January. I’m a lucky one, I suppose since I get the full on hair explosion twice a year as well as day to day shedding. Woohoo?
Anyway, here’s part of Ox’s molting story, as told in pictures. The hair falling out lasted around a month but I’m only posting pictures of the first week since that’s when it was most dramatic.

Haha! Love his bum flounce in that last picture. Lol
These are great! Perfect! I love the progression one MissGabster! Bunny Daddy and LEL: It’s almost like they create their own perfect bunny buddies.
I must admit that looking at these though is making my nose itch..really.
Not as extreme as Ox’s molt, but here’s Holly as of today. It started on her head only but now its her whole back. Still adorable ![]()
