I got a new rabbit a few weeks ago, and she is still young, so I obviously don’t want to spay her now. I’m wondering whether I should spay her in the future, or is it too risky? I had a previous rabbit and we took her to be spayed, and she didn’t survive the surgery. Spaying has a lot of benefits (preventing cancer, etc), but I’m not sure whether it’s worth the risk or not. I don’t want to lose another rabbit to surgery.

An unspayed female has an incredibly high risk of developing cancer. If you go to an experienced vet, the risk of losing your bunny should be verrrry small. It’s worth it. If your bunny ends up with cancer, you’d probably need an emergency spay anyway. You could always have bloods done prior to the spay to make sure there’s no underlying problem that might increase the chance if something happening under anaesthesia.
