should i buy my rabbit that i sold?

So a few months ago I stupidly sold my rabbit and the reason is because rabbits live for a long time and I realised when I go to uni I she would hopefully be alive and I can’t take her with me so I thought that it would be best to sell her now! But a sad email from the new owner saying she might sell her because she destroyed her carpet! I am so worried for my old rabbit! What if when she is re homed the family dont look after her or how do I know she is not being looked after right now? I feel like I want to buy her back but there is still the same reason I sold her in the first place! She has been spayed with is great as well! So my question is what would you do?

I’d buy her back in a moment, but that’s just me, I’m not going off to uni.

Could your family care for her while you are away?

I don’t think they would because they where not happy with me buying her in the first place, I really want her back but I can’t and it is making me really stressed

Does your uni allow you to bring pets? Some students have been able to keep a rabbit with them (because it’s a small pet) when they go to school but it depends on where you’re staying and what policies they have.

Second, I’d talk with your family about that and consider possible compromises. Such as, offering to help pay for bun’s upkeep if the family decides to take care of bun and ensuring you’re mostly responsible for bun when you are available and home.

Otherwise, all you can really do is talk to the new owner and suggest guidelines if she decides to sell the new bun. Such as, no dumping bun in a shelter or checking how well new owners would treat bun.

Definitely talk with your parents first, see if there’s any kind of compromise you can come to agreement on with them. If they are not willing to help you, see if you might have a friend who would be willing to house the bunny if you paid for all the bunny’s things?
If the uni lets you bring pets as sleepy said, I think that would also be a great alternative.

If worse comes to worse, I would talk with the current owner, go over the requirements/guidelines but also see if the new adopter will also be willing to talk with you before adopting so that you can be at peace knowing who the bunny is going to. That way you will also have a say so in approving or disapproving.
When I am rehoming a pet I rescued off the streets, I typically tell the new owner that if it doesn’t work out for whatever reason, to contact me & I will take it back. They’ve usually been pretty understanding of that, it was kind of them to contact you prior to rehoming it to let you know what’s going on. Maybe they wanted to give you the chance to take it back before they sell it to someone else?

A member on here once gave this advice about when you’re faced with a “should I? / shouldn’t I?” dilemma. I thought it so clever the way it simplified things. It was something like “ask yourself if you will always regret if you didn’t?”. I wish I could find the original post from the Lounge.
