I took my almost 15 year old bunny in today for her check up. She’s doing fabulous. No health problems at all. But, I forgot to ask about her sleeping. In the  last year she’s been taking naps a few times a week, so sprawled out that I’ve had to check if she was still breathing. Is that normal for senior rabbits? I’ve never had one male it this old!

Yes, this is normal. They are old, they are going to be tired. And yes, sometimes that results in dead bunny flop naps.

Yes that’s normal. My Luna is only 7 and 1/2 but she does have heart and kidney problems. She often sleeps in very contorted positions that you wouldn’t normally expect to see except from a live rabbit. So it’s always a little scary.

Awe good to know!!  I’ve definitely had a few “hold my breath” moments of worry. I honestly can’t believe she’s made it this long. And with no health problems! Her bun sister had sooo many issues.

My rabbits only a year and a half and he’s been doing this since I got him! The first time he did it I had only owned him a few days and thought he was dead! I take it as a good sign that he’s relaxed and comfortable! Also, I’m very impressed with how old and healthy she is!! 🙂

She’s gorgeous 🥰 And such an amazing age!

My bunny Breintje didn’t grow to be that old, but he was an absolute nap champion in his senior years. Especially after his massage he became a little too relaxed and limp. He often fell into such a deep sleep that he slid off the sofa while he was sleeping.

He liked having my hand on his back, so I spent many an evening holding him by the shoulder while his head was already dangling in free air. But at least he was happily twitching in REM sleep, so I knew that he was still with me. He had really long bunny dreams in his last years 🥰
