Seizures.. A lot of them. Help?

Hello everyone. This is my first time posting.
My bun Dahlia is a lop, she’s just turned a year old.
Two nights ago I was sitting near her in the living room. She had been playing for about three hours and decided to go into her home again. After awhile, she had two seizures, one right after the other. The sound is unlike any other sound she makes in her cage.
The sound of erratic thrashing.. She falls over repeatedly and kicks like crazy. Almost like when a bun loses balance and frightens itself, but worse. Much worse. After that, she sits up crookedly, kinda like she lost balance, and her mouth is open.. Kinda like she’s licking the air or about to scream. Afterward, I can see that she is scared. Her eyes are open wider than normal and terrified. Then she sits absolutely still. And after, goes back to normal. I’m so afraid she will hurt herself, and it’s scary to see.
Since then, she has had three more that I’ve seen. Five altogether.
I think they’ve been happening for longer than this. I thought she had been digging her food or litter out while I was upstairs but now that I know what her having a seizure leaves, it makes sense why there was randomly debris all over the place. (Which has happened each time)
Any advice would be much appreciated..

That must be distressing to see! {{{Vibes}}} for your girl.

You will need to get her checked out by the vet. Sometimes ear infections or the parasite E. Cuniculi can cause things like this. Your vet might like to start her on an anti-inflammatory right away and perhaps anti-seizure medication.

Do you use electronic pest control devices in the home at all? I did read that these can sometime trigger seizures in rabbits. That is known as an audiogenic seizure.

Absolutely recommend seeing a vet, they can check for underlying causes and prescribe something to help reduce or potentially eliminate the seizures.

In the mean time, it may be beneficial to make some modifications to her cage if need be. Taking anything away with sharp corners that she may hurt herself on, and if she’s ok with fleece maybe rolling some fleece blankets up and lining the corners of the cage as padding.

Those are really good ideas.. Thank you! I don’t use an electronic pest control device, good to know though. I’m very worried, and I can’t take her to the vet yet so anything I can do in the meantime is extremely helpful. She had five seizures I witnessed today.. Possibly another while I was gone. They seem to be getting worse each day. ((( should I hold her still while she had them? To keep her from knocking into things? Or will that just scare her more?

As you probably already know, you have to go to the vet immediately. Health issues in rabbits are often treatable when taken early but they tend to worsen very quicky. I don’t know why you can’t take her to the vet but if it’s because of money, you can ask to pay in installments or at a later date. Leaving your rabbit like that is really risky as her condition is clearly worsening and, as you noted yourself, she risks further injuries during a seizure. I have to be brutally honest here: leave it for a few days and you might very well end up with a dead rabbit. At least, phone your usual vet and explain the situation to see what you can work out. It might just be e cuniculi which is treatable with Panacur (which is not that expensive).

I agree. Some vets choose not to test anyway since there are a lot of false negatives with EC. They simply try to Panacur and see if it helps. The medication itself is cheap.
