So try to make this short.

I’ve had my female mini rex for almost 3 years now. Got her at 8 weeks old. So at around 3-4 months she did have her first bout of hormonal type of behaviour, she even sprayed me once. I scolded her and she didn’t do it again…circling feet ..couldn’t be trusted to not pee everywhere! Leaving poops around etc. Typical stuff.

Grinned and bared through it…and it went away. Tons of time have past shes been great…didn’t have to block anything off. Took all the bed barricades down. No peeing or pooping anywhere except her litter box.  She did have a false pregnancy last year though but it didn’t come with any other behaviour changes and didn’t last long.

About 2 weeks ago this all changed again…she has a obsession again to get on the beds and immediately pee. Shes leaving territorial poops everywhere. Cant pet her with her trying to mount our arms. Leaving little pees everywhere, its like she can’t hold it. It will be dribbles maybe out of hormonal excitement?? she also has been pulling her hair out here and there, but not attempting to make a nest like the last time. So I realize bunnies don’t go into heat…but I’m in new territory again and not sure if this will be like last time and evenutally ease up?? It is spring and if I can recall it was last spring she did have a tiny false pregnancy. But seriously after she was on the absolutely best behavior for over a year! Sigh…So is this typical of unspayed and if it eased before should I expect it will again.

Side note : cause I am extremely well aware of the spaying issue. Fact of the matter is I have exhausted all efforts to try to arrange this and its just not a option And it does kill me cause I worry so much about the cancer risks. But the closest place that will even offer this service for bunnies is 6 hours one way….its also comes at a very steep price tag of almost 800!!! As much as I would love to have that kind of money kicking around I don’t. With the travel and hotel and vet bills its excessive. Then there’s the risk of the surgery itself. So ultimately I’ve made the decision to just give her the best life I can without getting her spayed and I’ve accepted this…so please no judgement on this issue. I’ve made my choice on the matter and I’m at peace with it.

        Thank you

I was looking around on here and see a few posts about “spring fever” this sounds similar to what I’ve experienced twice now with my little girl. Last spring however it didn’t seem as bad …and like I these hormonal behaviours completely went away, hopeful it will this time as well.

Shes never been aggressive…another thing I was reading on here that maybe its kind of a mini (smaller breed) rabbit thing. Less aggressivness and less hormonal behaviors?

Intact bunnies can calm down after that initial surge of hormones that happens at puberty. This doesn’t mean that they are not longer hormonal or that they won’t go through phases where they exhibit more hormonal behaviors from time to time. So it’s entirely possible that she will calm down again after a while if she has calmed down before. But she could go through more phases again later on as well. It’s just something you have to endure when you have a bunny that is ruled by hormones, unfortunately.

The pee dribbling is a bit unusual though. Do you at least have a vet nearby that can treat her if she is ever sick or injured?

Yes there is thankfully. There was one that was even willing to spay her but they had zero experience!!! Like none..didnt even know they couldnt be put under like a cat. But for smaller issues Im sure they could be of help. I onlt noticed she peed just a little when she was being frisky. But its not all the time. Likely cause shes hanging out 24/7 near me and not near her litter box which she normally does. Maybe shes not relieving herself as much??
