Scratched ear

Hi guys. I found a tiny scratch on Buttercup’s ear just now. It wasn’t there earlier but I think it might be where she’s scratched herself when washing? She had her claws clipped in September but the last few days I’ve noticed her claws catching on the rugs so was going to get them looked at next week when she has her next vaccine. I’ve decided book her in for a claw clipping tomorrow instead so she doesn’t have to wait. It’s a teensy scratch and only on the outer side of her ear (inside her ears look fine) Anything I should do or any thoughts? I’ve got a photo but I’m having trouble uploading as I’m on my phone. Could I email someone here and they post it for Me?

If it’s just a little scratch, it should be OK. You can clean it, of course. And if you’re worried, you can put some antibiotic ointment on it. I use plain Neosporin. I’m not sure what the equivalent would be.

On the off chance you have it, you could put some chlorhexadine on it – it’s a mild disinfectant that’s harmless if the bun ingests tiny amounts. I would hesitant to put alcohol on a bun unless a vet told me to, because I’m afraid mine would blame me for the burning feel. Although actually, I’ve never used chlorhexadine on myself, so I don’t know if it burns on a scratch. Hopefully your bun will be fine without any treatment!

Thanks for your input guys, I took Buttercup to get her claws trimmed and I showed the vet nurse her scratch but she didn’t seem concerned. I’ll try and find out about the products you guys suggested in case I need it for future use

Was actually surprised by Buttercup’s claws. They weren’t stupidly long but quite a bit was taken off. She was fairly well behaved too.

That’s good! And if she was well behaved for the trim… bonus! It takes 3 (yes, 3!) vet techs to do Wooly’s nails.
