scab on nose that wont heal, and keeps growing back

  My sweet beautiful girl, Dusty, got scratched on her nose 1.5 mos ago by another one of my buns. Since then, it was rescratched once,by same other bun. I keep them separated by theyre so curious about each other. The scratch is just to the side of her nostril and it just won’t seem to heal up and go away! It scabs up and seems to grow or spread, very slowly, or just her skin around the scab is gettinf irritated, idk. Shes been to the vet for it twice now, once on NYE she was on an antibiotic for 11 days, no success. Andbwe went again yesterday, we were given a different antibiotic. They scraped the scab off yesterday and looked under microscope to see if it was mites, that was a negative. Im really baffled by this. I hate to see my precious Dusty with a big ugly scab on her nose! She is 4 yrs old and is not spayed (i know, i know, thats my next thing to plan for but im so anxious and nervous for her to have surgery) has anyone seen or dealt with a scab/growth type thing on a bunny nose? Any suggestions or information?? Im worried for her because nothing seems to make it go away.

  Can you post a picture? Are you absolutely sure the other rabbit scratched her? The only thing that comes to mind for a scab that won’t heal is an atypical syphilis infection.

  Scabs can take a very long time to heal on rabbits. It being on the nose exposes it to constant grooming, delaying healing and opening the way to minor to major infection (like cecotrope spit.. ew). Maybe an ointment to cover it and keep it clean may help? Additionally, discouraging grooming the area extensively, so feed more dry veggies to prevent grooming.

  In terms of syphilis, do you notice anything odd around the mouth or on the lip line?

  @Katiehas4buns, if this turns out to be syphilis, it is easily treated with 4-6 penicillin injections, It’s just a bacterial infection otherwise known as treponematosis.

  Nope, nothing odd on the mouth, eyes, or ears. pretty sure nothing odd on her privates either..i tried to look last night. I tried to cradle her on her back (she HATES this and i never do it) just to look between her legs just to check if her privates were normal. She kicked and flipped over and i couldnt even begin to look down there. So im assuming thats all in order….

  Im not 100% absolutely sure it was a scratch but i was fairly certain that was it. I have 4 rabbits. Dusty and teddy are bonded, and then ollie and coco are bonded. Ted is my only boy and he is neutered. Ollie n coco are going to be fixed soon, theyre less than a year. Ollie n coco and dusty and ted dont get along. I keep them all seperate. I have a bunny duplex and let them run at different times. When i was moving them all into the duplex i unbeknownst didnt shut the door all the way because it was a new cage i was unfamiliar with. Anyways a bunny fight ensued and shortly after dustys developed a scab..that grew and got larger. I assumed it was from fight but i guess it could have just as easily not been the fight. Her nose did not bleed after the fight…i would have noticed. I checked each bun thoroughly immediatly after.

  There have been some atypical cases here on the forum. It isn’t unheard of to only have lesions on the face. I can think of at least one case where it started on the nose.
