› FORUM › THE LOUNGE › Sandy got adopted!
Well guys, I got an email yesterday from the shelter saying that there were some people wanting to look at the rabbits and Sandy was one of the rabbits they were interested in. Jen always lets the foster parents know first in case they want to adopt. I love her to death but I was going to wait for my husband to come home to discuss it. He had his mind made up that we weren’t going to adopt her. Before he came home I took her out to run around. I looked into her little eyes as she climbed on my shirt and started to tear up. I told her that there was some people interesting in adopting her and asked her if she wanted to stay here or go back to the shelter. She then put her little paws up on my chest and looked into my eyes like she was telling me her answer (I actually asked this question a few times and each time she went over to us and looked in our eyes)…I was already gone!
My husband came home and held her and he was gone too. We were so torn but we just couldn’t imagine our lives without her. But we had to come to a conclusion.
So Sandy got adopted….BY US!!
We’re now foster failures, but we couldn’t be happier, she is such a little ball of joy! After a few weeks when we get our garage sale all done, I will go up the shelter and help clean out cages and whatever I can do to help out. She gets spayed in Sept. and then we will try the impossible…bonding a trio ![]()
We’ll see how that goes.

YAY!!!! ![]()

YAY!!!!Congrats! I had this feeling you wouldnt be able to give her up! You cant resist her! Such a cutie!
Haha yeah I had a feeling as soon as I held her in my arms, she was trying way to hard to be cute as we were talking it over. She was binkying and following us and we’re like “you’re not helping!!”
I’m a little excited yet scared at trying to bond the three once she’s spayed. I’m sure you can give me some tips, I see your’s is finally bonded, congrats! How long did that take exactly?
Congratulations! ^_^
What wonderful news! I had a feeling this would be the eventual outcome. I don’t know how I would’ve parted with such a sweetheart either. ![]()

Hey, you can tell me how bonding three goes, I eventually have to take on that daunting task!
But you have all my best wishes that it all goes smoothly!
It took me about 2 months’ish. It was hard but so worth it in the end!!!!! I was pretty unfamiliar to bonding cause my first two were instant but it was quite a learning experience.
!!! I realised I was holding my breath til I got halfway thru your post. Well congrats on being foster failures. I can’t stop laughing at you guys. I saw that adorable pic straight off and thought “i’m going to ask if she can take a ton more photos before Sandy goes”…no need! ![]()
She is very beautifull xxx Glad you are keeping her xx
Yea for Sandy!!!
This is one of the reasons I can’t bring myself to foster – I know I will end up wanting to keep them all! It is hard enough to go to the shelter for my other volunteer jobs.
Sage Cat, you might enjoy it if you tried it. I really like having rabbits around that I know will leave again. It’s so interesting to get to know the different types.
Congrats, Skibunny! Now you will be busy. Definitely post about the bonding, it’s going to be a trio of two females and one male, right?
That is so cute. She kept putting her little paws on your chest and staring into your eyes. How obvious is that.
I am so glad she is staying with you. She apparantly is very happy to stay too.
Wow 2 months?! I was getting impatient at 2 weeks with them two. I know I’m going to need lots of patience with this. I’ll have to read your post about your bonding experience and write down some stuff to remember.
Yup 2 girls and a boy…all lops!! Gracie hasn’t been over at the gate as much as she was before. I had Sandy out a few days ago while they were sleeping and I sat by the gate and Gracie woke up and hopped over. She kind of sniffed the gate and Sandy so wanted to go see what that furry creature was. Gracie quietly hopped away…then Archie came by and he was climbing the gate. I’m thinking for him he might be a bit humpy.
I still feel bad a bit for adopting her because the people that were going to look at her were going to get Sandy for their 11 year old daughter. I know whoever would have been interested in her, we would have adopted her anyways…it was just a matter of time. And who’s to say the daughter wouldn’t take care of Sandy. She’ll find another bun that will be loved. But Sandy needs so much attention, she loves it. When I had my first rabbit, I was 11 years old too. You have homework, after school activites, dances, eventually dating and then off to college. And that’s what happened to Mickey, he didn’t get as much attention, but I don’t think he cared he was pretty content on his own. But Sandy doesn’t like to be alone for to long. She also does a few things that Mickey used to do and I think she’ll always have a special place in my heart, just like Mickey.
I will be interested how Gracie reacts to her, especially with two females. Yes be willing for it to take a long time and then when it/if happens sooner than you thought it is exciting!
You had me tearing up reading your post. And then the KICKER… you tricked us!!! :o)
I don’t know how fosters do it. I honestly don’t. I wish I could foster, but even if I had all the time/money/space/patience in the world… I don’t know if I could give them up.
Hugs to you Megan. Congrats on your pretty little girl. Give your husband my condolences… lol.
Congrats!! Who could resist that little face and those big brown eyes? Not me ![]()

After I found out someone was interested in her, I was like “ok, we’ll either get another one or take a break from fostering for a bit until the basement is cleared up” I go in her room and she just looks at me with those big brown eyes and I started tearing up
and I just couldn’t convince myself to let this one go. We said if we ever got another one, 3 would be our limit. We don’t have anymore room to foster or money for that fact. I give kudos for the people that foster all the time because obviously we couldn’t do it without falling in love
I’m excited for next month when she gets spayed! I might need some advice on what happens afterwards because all the ones we have were already fixed before we got them.
