  I am sorry if the question is stupid because in a lot of articles its stressed again and again that wood shavings are not good for rabbits.
  
  I know that cider and pine shavings are not safe, thats why I have never brought pine bedding that is very easily available in the pet shop I get hay from. I ordered Back to Nature once, but its considered an expensive litter stuff even at your part of the word ; you can make an estimate how expensive it would be for me since its imported.

  Here, everyone’s saying how wood shavings are fine and they have used it for many years without any problem. I dont quite depend on Yahoo answers either, hence re-checking.
  
  Are there any wood shavings that are safe for rabbits ? I can get wood shavings from furniture market at cheap rate, the shavings being mostly of sal and low grade teak. Let me know if these two are considered safe for rabbits.

  ASPEN shavings are fine. Pine PELLETS are fine. It’s the wood shavings that produce phenols that are dangerous.
  
  I looked up teak for safety as wood with small animals and found a scientific study about the acute toxicity of teak oil in rabbits. Also, it’s listed a “toxic wood”, so I would say no.

  I knew a lot of you are going to mention aspen (hence I edit my post) . Aspen..I dont think I can get hold of aspen here.
  
  Okay..so as I was expecting, teak : no. I dont think I will have any luck with sal as well. Maybe its time I should start making home made care fresh.

  I don’t know much about sal but a quick read and it mentioned resin and use for incense. I’m thinking its aromatic wood??
  
  What about other paper litters for cats? Do you have anything like that? It’s often cheaper then small animal litters.
  
  I just use newspaper with hay and change it frequently. Very cheap as I’m given the newspapers. : )

  The wood shavings you don’t want to use are pine or cedar Aspen is ok -I believe it’s because the others are softwood and aspen isn’t-but I could be wrong. As was stated, it’s phenols (or aromatic hydrocarbons) that are harmful -basically that wonderful smell, is hard on bunnies

  Carefresh is of course safe, and super cute in different colors but I find it expensive, I use wood stove pellets -very absorbent
