Hello, (don’t read forward if you are sensitive about death)

This morning my bunny had passed away. We had saved her at an auction where they sold them to people to eat them. It is a horrible business and we are trying to shut it down. Thankfully we and others saved eight bunnies but they had many animals from ducks to guinea pigs in horrible cages and living conditions
Once she was brought home we decided that we could not keep her because we have two dogs and just not enough space. We were fostering her until my sister found an owner but sadly that did not happen. She didn’t show any signs of weakness or sickness so it was very surprising when she died. She ate perfectly and drank a regular amount of water. So what had happen last night was well we are not exactly sure. That’s why I came here to see what has happened and if it was a disease that could spread to the other bunnies. When I took my bunn out and put her on the ground she started flipping around. Not like hopping but just rolling and jumping like her legs weren’t working. If anyone is confused what I mean I have a video of something similar to what happened to my bunny. Afterwards she was completely paralyzed, just wouldn’t move. When we tried to pick her up her head started shaking not to far to the sides but fast. Her eyes seemed almost shut and we were extremely worried. After that we thought she got a disease from the place which is probably what happened but I am just curious what it was. We decided not to move her because we didn’t want to hurt her anymore but she started burning up quick. She was so hot on her tummy it was insane. She didn’t seem in any pain, also she was so paralyzed that she just let us flip her on her back like she had no control. We pet her and said our goodbyes (please don’t get mad for not take no to the vet it was to late at night for my mother to let us go). I tried to give her some of her favorite food and she ate one little piece but that was it. We saw her breath shortening and becoming very faint. When I had to put her back I put her near her water so if she got the energy to drink she wouldn’t have to walk far. The next morning she had died. She never my moved, just died in the same place. Sorry to be depressing… I hope this never happens to your bunnies but any ideas what happened to my little pretty?

I’m so very sorry to hear about this sad situation. Thank you for your involvement in trying to help her and other animals.

There are so many things that could have been wrong with her, it’s impossible for me to try to guess. Could have been an illness or parasite she caught or something genetic. The only way to determine a cause of death is to have a vet perform a necropsy.

Oh that’s so sad! Sorry for your loss, it is very noble of you to try and save the bunnies from such an awful situation.

As LPT said, it’s just so hard to determine the cause because it could have been a number of things.

I’m sorry she passed away. You saved her from a worse fate and I hope that dreadful place she came from can be closed down.

              RIP ((little bunny)). xx
