Sad Bunny

Henry’s gang (3 dogs) got picked up this morning for a day at the hairdresser’s (cut and bath – wish it was me???) and I really didn’t think it would bother him? But he’s been laying in ‘their’ spot all day. He hasn’t gone for a wee, poop, feed or a drink for about 4 hours now (and they won’t get dropped home for another 3 hours). Would he be really missing them? And should I be concerned that he hasn’t been to the toilet and eaten? Should I be worried? And should I try to encourage him to his house to eat, etc. or just leave him be till the dogs get home? Sorry if this sounds silly – but for as much as I ‘thought’ I knew my boy – his behaviour today has got me a little worried….. Cheers, Henry’s mum.

He could be missing them, or he could just be enjoying having the run of the place and chilling out. All mine tend to lay about during the day without doing much of anything..
If he is stretched out and relaxed I would say he is fine. If he is loafed up and hunched then it might be an idea to check his tummy.

He is laying fully stretched out (we call it the (cartoon) ‘bugs bunny’ position), so I know he’s not stressed. It’s just that he has such a routine throughout the day from 4am till bed time – his not moving from the one spot (under the breakfast bar chairs) for all this time since the dogs left this morning has caused me some concern. I hope I am being silly, and he is just missing his gang and all will be good when they get home. If so, I wonder if he has truly bonded to the dogs, like a bunny to another bunny? I have joked about his relationship with the dogs, maybe I shouldn’t be so light about it anymore? Thanks Roberta. (I’ll check to see if he eats when they get home). Cheers.

But I felt bad because being Swedish I felt I’d no business naming my bunny after another country’s president – then again, mr Obama IS a public figure and stands for a lot of good stuff as well.

It’s [edit to add: not] so easy for “tone” to be “heard” in text. One of the greatest faults of forums and any communication via writing. I really hope Andi’s preferences are set so that she receives messages in her email and opens them, or comes back to check. It hasn’t even been 24 hrs and I miss her terribly. I know this place was a safe spot for her to express the joy of having Henry, which she had to keep secret irl.

While I haven’t really reached out to anyone in particular here, Andi had reached out to me. We have a little in common, so it made it quite easy to feel fond of her. I wanna tell you all, I’m happy that you are here and contribute with your wealth of knowledge and experiences, fun stories, and sharing just the normal day-to-day things that happen. If you post frequently, I can guarantee that you have touched someone even if you don’t know it. Even if you are new here and new to bunnies, that newness can be nostalgic to the experienced bun-mom or dad and bring a smile to their face.

I don’t think we have any mean-spirited people here and we should try to keep that in mind if something comes across badly. If you just take a step back and try to see if something is intentionally meant to be nasty, or if it really could sound another way if you let down those defenses that pop up when we feel like we are being attacked.

I find this thread ironic now, as I’m one that’s feeling like the sad bunny now.

LBJ, I don’t -think- any communication happened outside of that other thread. I believe that Andi just felt bad that Kiki was excited when she first started the thread, but then was feeling disheartened with the responses. And Andi is so sweet, I think she took all of the blame and placed it on herself, where the blame only lies in the fact that we are reading words and can’t hear inflection of one’s voice.

I can’t remember if when we register as new users if we are required to give an email address or not. I’ve sent 2 PMs to Andi but I never got her email address or her full name either, so can’t even Facebook search.

Maybe BB has her email hiding away somewhere in admin area? I hope Andi will at least come by to see what’s going on and notice these posts.

I’ve been a member here for almost 7 years, and a forum leader for the majority of that time… Lots of people have come and gone for a variety of reasons. And sometimes people need to take a break from the forum. Maybe she just needs a break? 🙂

I agree with Sarita and Beka. I’m sure AndHenry knows she’s missed and that we like having her around here. She’s welcome to come back if she chooses to/when she’s ready. I think the best thing we can do at this point is just give her time and space.

I also think this is a great time to remind everyone that if you’re ever having an issue with another member you can always come to any or all of the forum leaders either through private messages or via the alert system. If the member you’re having an issue with IS a forum leader than please contact the site admin BinkyBunny/BB.

The alert system is defaulted to be an anonymous way for you to contact or alert all the forum leaders of about a specific post or reply. If you want us to know who you are when you use the alert system sign the alert message with your username. If you would like to remain anonymous do not sign it. Regardless of whether or not you leave your name we will not use your name when dealing with a situation or other members. Only the forum leaders and forum admin will know you sent an alert.

Yes, I’ve been thinking maybe she needed a break. She was upset and maybe just needed to take a step back to gather her thoughts. “WOW”! How awesome are you guys!!!!!!!!! I can’t begin to describe my SURPRISE when I checked my email this morning and found I had all these messages from my BB family/friends – huh? THANK YOU ‘ALL’ so very much. Again “WOW”! (I actually worried I was annoying/talked too much, lol!).

I am embarrassed to admit that I over reacted, but the thought that I could ruin someone’s BB experience when I SO treasure/value mine really did upset me. I read and re-read the forum in question and I couldn’t understand what I OR anyone else posted that warranted such a response? None of us deserve that!
I’ve seen it happen to a couple of other BBer’s (and I even addressed it once to a newish member at the time). I could only imagine how hurtful it must have felt being on the receiving end – now I know first hand. But I’m taking everyone’s advice ‘to get over it’ and I promise you I am! And if I’m ever unfortunate enough to have this happen again, I’ll just remember and be sure not to post on their forums. Why should I miss out on BB when I get so much pleasure being part of the BB family.

I think Henry will be happy I am back too – yesterday, having nothing to distract me in my free time meant that I was able to bother Henry more and disappointedly, I don’t think he appreciated my overwhelming attention, DOH!

Gosh guys – I’m blushing! (I want to show this to my kids to prove I am ‘bunny cool’ (not a bunny nut case) ha ha hah – but I won’t. I am so ashamed about my behaviour – SORRY everyone).
By the way, just letting you know – I am ‘not’ on any other bunny forums (I’m a one bunny forum lover) and I don’t do facebook cause I’m too old (dumb) to understand it and I worry about security, as most of you know Henry is an ‘illegal’ immigrant and I can’t chance being caught – besides the fine (which I heard is around 30 grand), Henry would be taken away, most likely destroyed? Can’t happen!
Within weeks of first signing up I even checked with BB directly that my location (suburb) and info couldn’t be given out to our authorities if they ever came across me on this forum. So yes – you guys are my bunny family! and as said in a previous post by another, I love and adore you guys too! Yesterday was my worst day ever!
Notice how I don’t ask many questions? I read everyone’s, so I don’t have to – the advice is the bestest ever! and the friendships – invaluable!

When communicating solely thru the written word, misunderstandings can happen even with the best intentions.

Some people are overly sensitive when it comes to constructive criticism. They are here asking advice bc they love their bunnies and want the best for them (just like us!) but then when we try to be helpful and offer the appropriate advice, they feel jumped upon. Other people may feel justified in providing the bare minimum, and when we suggest some ways they might be able to improve, then they feel harshly judged.

The key is to just offer your best advice, politely, and with sources if necessary. The majority of the members on this site are on the same page regarding rabbit care, so we’re fortunate to have lots of back up.

Enough senseless rambling from me… Lol! Again, welcome back!

I know the feeling, I once left a writing forum because someone insulted me and my works on every line. When I responded asking why he thought I was a “Crackheaded Idiot who ***************** and can’t write.” my thread was locked by an admin so that the situation wouldn’t escalate. I was so scared to feel such intense negativity towards me again that I blocked off the forum and tried to forget it. One month later when I finally brought myself to even OPEN UP an INTERNET BROWSER I found a message in my email inbox saying someone sent me a P.M asking “Why haven’t you written anything new?” To this day I’m ashamed to say I haven’t replied, I’m too scared….

Now when I look back I feel a little silly, but the intense feelings are still there. He was a troll in my case ( The Admin saved me from more distress) and I felt like I did something wrong. Your case was just a misunderstanding but I’m guessing your feelings are just as intense if not more, (As I published works I knew could be criticized and you were caught off guard.)

Which is why I’m glad you had the courage to stay We can’t afford to lose such polite people!

I’m still a newbie so I should probably just keep my mouth shut on this but . . .

One thing I think everyone should remember is that this is a forum and the one posting the question isn’t the only one reading the replies.  Many of us learn from reading the replies and it really helps when someone points out what may seem obvious to some folks but not necessarily to those of us still new to bunnies (ex. some of the dangers of indoor bunnies playing outside, use of harnesses, etc.).  So, just my opinion, but I’d really hate to see anyone *not* post some advice in the future that could potentially prevent even one bunny from getting hurt.  I’ve learned so much already from all of you (that includes AndHenry) and still have tons more to learn so please keep the advice flowing!

Muffin, I know precisely how you feel. I have disappeared from places that I’ve enjoyed because of being oversensitive (and even once for totally flipping out and making a fool of myself), then feeling foolish about it, but still not being able to bring myself to show my “face” again. Being embarrassed and not wanting to be judged, even when no one is actually judging you. It’s hard to admit (to ourselves), “I’m being silly, why can’t I just act like nothing has happened” when deep in your mind you feel like EVERYONE “probably” thinks you’re “emo” or “crazy”. And the longer we put off facing it, the HARDER it is to face!

I have to say, Andi, you may have felt a bit ashamed or silly, but I’m really glad you found the courage to come back. You guys are great!

My bunnies try to attach themselves to my dog but she doesn’t attach herself back =( She just steals their veggies.

I gotta see to make sure whatever was wrong with Henry was resolved!” But that is sooo adorable that Henry missed the dogs that much and would wonder the same as Andi if the bunbuns miss their human that much

AndHenry – Welcome back to BB! I read the “offending” thread also and it was definitely a misunderstanding due to the lack of tone in writing that’s up for interpretation. I always imagine a very happy, perky voice when I read your posts so I’m glad you decided to come back. BB is the first forum I’ve ever actively joined and participated in and from (obsessively) reading numerous threads during my research on bunny care, I can understand why people who haven’t read as many threads may find certain posts offending or negative. But as JackRabbit pointed out, a lot of people rely on reading the replies to threads when searching for answers and these include many people who are new to bunny care. So the more people point out things, the more can be learned –for anyone that may or may not have known the information. I hope across the board people will understand that posts in forums even if responding to a specific individual’s question is really meant for the whole forum to see. Just for being a part of BB already says that you care about your furbabies… so it goes on to say that nobody would suggest anything with any intention to be nastily accusing or assuming a poster would hurt their bunbun.

I think you have really contributed in a positive way to BB no doubt about that! You add the humour (which often is needed!) to binkybunny, and I think that’s great! You are obviously a very caring person who loves animals and located about other people, it meant a lot to me when Bella passed. I also like how you end each post with “cheers!” It makes me smile! I don’t think you are the least bit annoying, I love having you commenting on my posts! Don’t ever leave!

My friend was living in Queensland a few years back and we would send care packages back and forth, he sent me some flip flops.. whatever the right word is.

And if one good thing can come out of this (besides learning the Aussie slang for men’s tight swimwear??? Australia really seems like an awesome country! Except for the stupid rule about not being allowed to own a Henry =( Surely, what harm could a neutered male bunny do to the agribusiness? Of course bunnies can be scary creatures, we all know our Monty Python, but I’m almost certain the MP-Bunny was a she, and probably intact as well. The does are that much more territorial.

Yes – here in Australia THONGS have always been footwear! Gosh, this is sooo funny! The thong panties were introduced to us about 20 years ago, and we know them as thongs too – but if you walked past someone in the street and said “where can I buy thongs” they would send you to a footwear shop! Too bad if you were after a pair of knickers??????

You know what’s funny? Somehow the conversation with my husband would steer into what I did at work that day. I would be like “so I was helping this lady try on bras and….” Then he would interrupt me and ask “Was she hot?” And I would be like well, if MUCH older women are what float your boat. For some reason he had this idea that cute young girls would come in and ask for help hooking their bras. Sorry, most were probably in their 70s at least.
