Return of the lost bunny. Help?!

Sooo I have a bonded pair but unfortunately one of them once belonged to my friend and I took her with me when I moved across the country. She hadn’t been spayed yet and she escaped a few days ago.

But this morning, I found her meandering my backyard and managed to catch her and put her back in her cage.

question one: my two does were bonded, but with one having escaped, is their bond still good? She was gone for a couple of days so I don’t know if that’s long enough to break a bond. They seem okay right now, but is there a way to know for sure?

Question two: I’m assuming it isn’t out of the question to think that my escapee may have had some “encounters” with a wild rabbit. There’s a lot of wild cottontails around here. How soon would I be able to tell if she went and got pregnant? If she did, should I separate the sisters?

Cottontails and domestic rabbits can’t breed. Domestic rabbits are from the European rabbit, which is in a very different species. So her chances of being pregnant are actually quite low unless you have escaped domestic buns around or a neighbour nearby who has free roaming buns

If they seem to be getting along fine they should be ok. Chances are your other girl missed her while she was gone and is just happy to have her back

Pregnancy is 28-31 days in rabbis, does will often pull fur to make a nest the day that they give birth. If you notice signs of nesting in a few weeks time, you are best to separate them then.

Might seem like a cynical thought, but if it was your plan to get her spayed, this is a perfect time to schedule a vet visit to check that she didn’t catch fleas or other bad stuff and schedule the spay
