Hello! I’m having a hard time deciding what type of diet I should keep my bunnies on. I was thinking of veggies and treats that I can grow/ are easier to come but this time of the year such as this diet: Monday:
        Handful of grass
        Cabbage
        Kale
        Carrot
        Cucumber

        Tuesday:
        Cabbage leaves
        Bok Choy
        Kale
        Parsley
        Apple

        Wednesday:
        Handful of grass
        Stick of celery (sliced)
        A Cherry Tomato
        Lettuce
        Cabbage

        Thursday:
        Bell Pepper
        Parsley
        Cabbage
        Bok Choy
        A Cherry Tomato

        Friday:
        Handful of grass
        Broccoli
        Kale
        Stick of Celery slices
        Small piece of Banana

        Saturday:
        Handful of grass
        Bok Choy
        Kale
        Cabbage
        Parsley

        Leftover Sunday:
        Handful of grass
        Leftover veggies/mixture

However, I’m scared that this kind of alternation will upset their tummies or that some of this food isn’t good for them. I’m more used to guinea pigs than rabbits which have COMPLETELY different diets (in fact the diet above is nothing like my piggies diet on any way). I just want to be a good caretaker for them and give them the best so they can have a happy healthy life. Also! I am having a problem with one of my rabbits. He barely eats at all. He is already very thin (yet somehow muscular) and he barely eats any pellets. He won’t hardly touch hay and veggies. It’s odd. He of course is away from my other buns since he is a (fixed!) male I recently rescued and my other two buns I rescued are females who I’ve noticed both will attack him when I try to bond either of them with him. Is it because he’s lonely or do buns just not eat much sometimes? Any other bunny I’ve had in the past scarfed down anything they could get.

I’d really go easy with the cabbage. It can cause gas in some bunnies, and the last thing you want is potential GI stasis. I also wouldn’t feed parsley more than once or twice a week due to the diuretic affect it can have. I also wouldn’t feed kale that many times a week, also probably only once or twice because of the calcium levels in it. Also keep the sugar things (carrots, pepper, cucumbers, tomatoes, apples, banana to a twice a week thing) and only a 2 tbsp serving.

Leafy greens are the main staple of veggies you should be feeding. Small pieces of broccoli or cauliflower are fine, but don’t give a ton at once. How big are your buns? 1 cup per 2 pounds of body weight. is a good amount of veggies to be feeding them. My boys are around 4.5 pounds so they get 1.5 cups of leafy greens a day.

For your boy, if he isn’t eating, it’s important to feed him something like Critical Care so he doesn’t lose weight. Have you taken him to a vet? He could be having dental issues.

Agreed, it is important that you get to the root of his issues with eating. I suggest a vet visit to check teeth, and if you have any baby gas drops I’d go ahead and give some just in case it is gas. How long has he not been eating and does he still produce poops?

As for the veggies, I respectfully think that it’s a bit overboard. Guineas (if I’m not mistaken) can have unlimited veg, but rabbits it is recommended to give 1cup per 2lbs of body weight.

As A&B already said, take it easy with the cabbage, kale, bok choy and parsley. Can you not get a hold or romaine? It’s a staple veg for many people because it’s not gassy and isn’t high in oxalates like spinach.

I’d recommend giving romaine daily, and you can alternate some add-ins such as kale, bok choy, and cabbage. If you really want to give all three, I’d say give them no more than every OTHER day, since they carry the risk of gas production. Parsley, broccoli and bell pepper I would say 2-3x a week, and carrots, banana, and apple should also be only 2-3x week due to sugars.

If you’re looking to add variety and something that you can grow, I recommend an herb garden. I have basil, mint, oregano, rosemary, lavender, and sage that I mix in with hay and flowers to make “forage” or I just give as a treat.

He had a dental check just before I adopted him (literally days ago). He poops just fine. It just seems he doesn’t eat as much as my girls. I’m going to call in another visit just in case they missed something and give him a few drops. As for veggies, guinea pigs eat about a cup per pig. I currently have 4 pigs which means a little over four cups per day. I don’t know how much rabbits eat they are just a lot bigger than my piggies, a little more hormonal too lol, and much more active. We recently had a few problems with romaine in my area. A lot of romaine have been deemed unsafe, I think it was a E. Coli outbreak, so I haven’t been buying that and it’s hard to come buy as it is, however, I do feed my pigs green and red leaf lettuce. Would this work?
