Recently Adopted Lionhead – Grooming?

My husband and I recently rescued a stray lionhead bunny that no one has claimed. So now she’s ours!  She’s mostly healthy (she’s getting spayed in a few weeks) but she has a pretty big matted knot of fluff on top of her head between her ears. I’m used to our Ellie’s fur (mini, Holland Lop mix) and I’ve never had to deal with mats! Any suggestions?? Any ideas are appreciated!

I use the Hairbuster comb, the one they sell in the Binky Bunny shop. I adopted a Lionhead Cross, and I had to cut matted fur off her butt (right underneath), so if you decide it will hurt her too much to comb out, you can always cut the matt, but do it carefully (maybe even with a headlamp), or at least, in good lighting. I comb Crysta’s fur by holding it at the base, and combing from the tip to the base, much like human hair. I bought one of those pronged wire brushes, but I rarely use it. Ordinarily, I wouldn’t cut a rabbits fur, but it was matted to the point of no return.

I had a similar situation a month ago. We also have a lop Redford and now adopted Bianca.
I took her to the vet right away and since she was really dirty and all in curled up dirt and poop vet gave her a cut ant her bum and few more places, and told me to give her a bath. And I must say I was never morr scared in my life. But it all went nicely.
She is doing great now, and only thing Im struggling right now is daily fur care.because she likes to get messy in hey. I’m using furminator from time to time and really carfully and not on too often because Im scared it can hurt her.And also as Crysta case I mostly hold her fur on the bottom and then comb.
