For those of you in school, are you ready for the new semester?

School starts up again next week for me. I’m not ready. A three week break was so not enough! I am still feeling burned out from last semester and I don’t know if I can handle 3 classes and still find time to make progress on my thesis (which I really need to do, I keep putting it off). I can’t make any plans because I still don’t have my teaching assignment. I’ve been sending emails and no response yet. I’m not going the freak out though.

Urgh, no. I am taking 18 units next semester. I just want to be done with school! I haven’t even checked my grades from last semester. It always terrifies me that something went wrong and I failed. I just want to crawl into a hole and forget about it.

You didn’t look at your grades? I was so nervous with my one class last semester that I emailed the professor! LOL

Nope. I am pretty sure I passed all but one, which was a pass/fail class that I didn’t want or need to take in the first place. I only took it because it was an exercise class and certain people (who will not be named) thought I was going to get fat. I am still terrified though.

Haha Ky, I don’t look at mine either. I don’t even want to know. I must’ve passed through because I’m enrolled in classes that required those for a prerequisite. My classes don’t start until the 18th.

I’m on a break from school until I can get things sorted, but I was always wanting to get back to school so I didn’t forget the stuff I learned that was required for the next class! lol Like math, I am horrid at it and I was always worried I would forget the things I learned before the next semester started! I am a freak about grades though, if I get less than an A (4.0) I feel bad so day of posting I am refreshing the page like mad. :s

I’m always keeping tabs on grades. I have to make sure my GPA is above 3.0, otherwise there is the possibility of academic probation. =\ I’m too much of a perfectionist though, so I’m usually shooting for A’s.

Yeah I like A’s and B’s, but I’m not going to sweat it. My school is such a clown school, a adjunct for my last class gave me a B when I got A’s on everything simply because she didn’t like me. Total BS. But its not worth the stress to fight it.

Reading these posts makes me miss school a bit – it was so nice to go on a break and come back to completely new classes. Now I go on a break and come back to the same stuff I wished would go away 2 weeks ago. lol Good luck to everyone in the new semester! What programs is everyone in?

Blah, that isn’t good, I hate when politics get into things they deserve no place in (how your teacher feels shouldn’t determine grade!). Only B I got was in English, because the final was weird. We took the class with our Professor, then for the final she wasn’t even told what was going to be on it so she had to guesstimate teach us what we should have to know. The final itself was given by a school review board in the school auditorium – by the most strict, toughest English Professor (out of her classes, maybe 1-2 people would get an A, the rest were lucky if they got Bs) on campus and some head of the department. The topic was write a 5 page essay about a local news story that affects you – I never, ever read local news… so I was sitting there trying to come up with information from things I had overheard other students talk about during the semester. lol I got As on ALL my work except that final, so my grade ended up being a B.

Yeah thats pretty awful Sticker Another class I had, was completely disorganized. For good reason, the professors dad was terminally ill and died during the semester, but she gave these tests online that literally had no answer, she didn’t teach it and it wasn’t google-able. The only people who got passed those tests were the ones who copied down the answers and used them for the retest she let everyone take when we all failed the first one. I didn’t even think of doing that so I got a D in the class.

                                    I don’t wanna go back! :'(

I dislike school. I was so happy when I got my cosmetology degree and license and was working. Stupid knee. But at least I found out when I’m young and not too far out of highschool. Besides, my major classes are the only really challenging ones- all my other classes are basically review from high school but I went to a crazy about test scores school and those test are college levels mostly. I just actually dropped a class today. I realized I won’t get the other class that paired with it for when I transfer so I dropped it and picked up the fitness facility class (basically go 15 times a semester to pass). I figured this way I can get serious about my rehabilitation (that’s if the MRI says everythings still ok.) OH and erlohwen- I’m a business major but hopefully I’ll be transfering to a Business Management Major soon.

I’m excited for those of you who are almost done with your programs though! And maybe a little jealous I got another 2 years at least to go. Maybe 1.5 if I go through the summer.

I am so excited for school to start! I love my classes and my department. My teachers know me and we always just chit chat on non school days. I am taking a couple of required classes but the rest is, Training and Management of the Yearling, Equine Reproduction and Physiology, and Form and Function of the Equine Athlete. I want to add one more but I am still looking.
My last semester was working with the weanlings but now we get to follow them into their yearling years! Its going to be great seeing our little baby horses all grown up now! And for Equine Repro, we get to follow a pregnant mare through the semester! Oh and last semester, my favorite class, was all about Food Safety we covered vegies, fruit, dairy, meat, everything! Really solidified my want to work with the FSIS!
I seriously love my school no matter how hard it gets.

Tipsy, those sound like the most fun classes ever! I only got 6 electives over four years, so I could never take any of the animal science classes for fun, but I really wish I had! My school had a great vet school so I think the classes would’ve been awesome.

Tipsy, that sounds awesome!!! If youre able, I bet none of us would turn down the chance to see a few pics of those yearlings 😉

I am pretty excited for this semester, now… Yesterday I changed my minor. Previously, I was working on a Bachelors of Fine Arts (studio art focus) with a certificate for secondary education in the arts (I was working on being an art teacher). I knew I wanted to be an art major but I was really struggling with how I was going to make that into a practical career. The idea of being a teacher was not sitting well with me. Then, I had a lightbulb moment over the break. Currently, I am working in a library and it has been such a great job. I was watching some shows that involved archival work and art reconstruction. I realized how excited I get and how much I long to do that. So, I decided to switch to a minor in Art History. I want to work in a library or museum working with archives and reconstructions.
So, now I am taking Studio Methods (helps develop the creative process, I’ll learn how to document and sell my work and develop a professional portfolio), Ceramics, Printmaking and History of Japanese Art.
Classes start again on Monday. I don’t know if I am really ready… I still feel worn out but I guess Ill have to overcome that.

the first time at college right after high school, i just couldnt convince myself to give a $*&! and supernintendo won out every time.
college was more fun going back full time at 26… I had already honed my obnoxiousness skills, and i also had 8 yrs work experience under me.
i only ended up missing graduating high honors by .02 points (not a sobriety test), with a 3.48/4

is it wrong that i still have my college and high school IDs?

Tipsy- I miss the days where I was studying my passion so I was excited for school. That’s how I felt about cosmetology. It was more fun than work.

Huckleberry- I think your major sounds fun. My art class I took in college was my favorite. I do dabble in art occasionally but I mostly do abstract because the technical stuff well I uh stink at lol.

Longhairmike- I have all mine too even back to some middle school IDs. What does that say about us?

I’m glad you went back, longhairmike 😉 It does make a difference when it’s a matter of being expected to take classes and really wanting to take classes.

Somewhere in a drawer I have my high school id AND my community college id from last semester….lol. and I’m really old (59)

Since I do programming all day at work I’ve taken advantage of the local college to take some classes and actually get credit, just one class at a time. It can be tiring trying to leave work in time to get across town, walk a mile to class but I love my teacher and the way he teaches. and I’m never the oldest one in the class either. True, the other old geezer will start snoring about halfway through…..but, he’s way older!

This last semester there was a young dude who couldn’t sit down and shut up and let the teacher get on with it. Big spoiled drama king, wanted to debate everything and make every minute all about him, our class was falling way behind, everything was confused, it was a mess. Then he took to confronting me during class, basically wanting to know why ‘someone like me’ was bothering to be there taking up space, weren’t there other classes for retired folk and demanding reasons for my answers to the teachers question. Very condescending idiot.

He was heckling me one day in class and I just got up and went over and laid my test down in front of him, I knew he’d barely been passing and I’d been acing everything. Told him that when he started making those kind of scores we might have a frame of reference to discuss his ideas, but until then, I’d appreciate it if he would sit quietly and let the teacher continue without interruption or I would file a complaint against him. Oh, and that by the way, I’d been doing this kind of work for 20 years and I’d NEVER hire a $*&!arse like him!

After that, he wasn’t as bad, but when he’d get loud and notice me glaring at him over my granny glasses, he’d hush up…..lol. My thanks to Spock and Star Trek Movie IV for the put down!

I said I wasn’t going to freak out, but I think I’m ready to panic now.

I still have most of my IDs. We used to use them at the movie theatre to get the student discount. I’m a student though now and they have since stopped offering the discount. Stupid.

This semester is my last semester of college and I’m freaking out. It’s so weird to think that after this semester, my ‘formal’ education will be over for a long time, and that the courses I’ll be doing from then on will be stuff I want to do, rather than stuff I have to do to graduate.

Kralspace, that guy sounds like someone I work with! We all had to do a web content design course recently and I just wanted to turn to him and say “shut the heck up before I beat you to death with my textbook”. It would have taken a while, but I think I would have enjoyed it immensely 🙂

I just don’t see an end in sight for my schooling. After I get my BA in 3 semesters, I will need to get either teaching credentials or an MFA unless I want to do museum work. That wouldn’t be so bad, but after my boyfriend graduates and gets his BS at the same time I do, he has another 4-6 years to get his PHD so wherever he decides to do that, I will follow. My teaching credentials/MFA (probably teaching creds) are another year that I potentially can’t be with him, which is frustrating.

Doll store? Are they creepy dolls? Hehe!

S and L’s Human – Are you just getting an associates? Wouldn’t the GI bill pay for more schooling than that?

I did some investigating. I guess I am in danger of losing my job as a TA. The reason is a lack of funding and a lack of a need for TAs. We’re working on trying to figure something out, but I’m still a bit freaked out. I don’t even want to think about what’s going to happen if we can’t figure something out. =\ I’ve been trying not to think about it though because I was (I guess still am) excited about my classes this semester. Two of them are really focused on my field. =D

I will definitely take pictures of the babes! There is a rather funny video I have. A couple babies were getting castrated (dont worry nothing bloody) and I got a video of one of the babies going under sedation, he looked so drunk it was cute! I am really hoping that the baby I worked with is there. He belongs to one of my teachers and I have been begging him and being extra good in hopes of letting the little guy stay, so I really hope that when I get back, he is still there. His name is Sam Houston. Laziest, smartest, most “afraid of nothing” little baby I have ever met. Whenever there was something new the teacher wanted us to show the babies, Sam was always the first. Because once he did it and everyone watched him do it like there was nothing to it, they all copied him. Greatest little guy ever. Miss him to pieces.
Speaking of horses, I have terrible news. I am selling my horse of 11 years.

I should be able to continue to go to school until the bill runs out though. Thats terrible about the TA! Do they have other jobs at the school available?

Aww Tipsy! How come you have to sell your horse? I’ve always wanted a horse, someday maybe. My girls love to ride, it’d be awesome to be in a situation in life that we could afford the upkeep for one.

My position is subsidized by grants/other funds that are available to my school. This means I’m paid a salary and am not required to work more than 20 hours a week. There are other jobs available, but they pay by the hour. So basically I would have to work almost 40 hours a week in order to have the same amount of money each month. Plus I wouldn’t receive my other benefits like the healthcare plan and tuition waiver. It really stinks. I can’t afford to go to school full time without all this stuff.

And every time I put a western saddle on, she flips her head in the air and shakes her head. She just doesnt like it and we fight every ride, its just not fun to ride her anymore. A couple of times, she has gotten me so frustrated, I drive home in tears. She loves kids and I would love to see her go to a little girl with just as much spirit as her.

Honestly, I’m SUPER psyched about my schedule and classes. I got one of my favorite profs for Psychology 202, another one of my favorite profs for Anatomy and Physiology 2, and I’m also taking Abnormal Psych, Medical Terminology, and Research Methods. Granted, A&P is only the second half of the semester (8 week course).

My schedule is also awesome – I only have class Mondays and Wednesdays, with only one course online. Tomorrow, I start classes at 4:30 at a campus about an hour from my house. They last until 10:10 with a 20 mintue break between them, but I’m a night person anyway. Wednesday, I only have class from 4-7 at a campus that’s about 20 minutes from me.

Second 8 weeks, an 8 AM – 1:40 gets added both days at that far away campus, but I still like that schedue.

It went well, of course it was just the general first day, hand out the syllabus, explain things bla bla bla. I really like the prof, I have had him for another class and so he remember me and knows me pretty well, already.
Tonight, I can not sleep though. I am so excited about my ceramics class tomorrow. It will be the same thing, just talking, but I can’t wait to get started! It also does not help that my bf brought home a 32 ounce fountain dr pepper from the gas station, my greatest addiction, as a special treat… at 11pm… so now it is 4 am and I am can’t sleep… I hope I can get enough coffee in me tomorrow to stay awake until my last class ends at 6pm.

So now me and my partner have to choose a new horse to work with. We tried to choose a cute little chubby baby named Truffles. I will definitely take pictures, since I was also ordered by my dad to take some too, he wants to see the chunky filly. My classes are pretty good so far. Love my Yearling and Equine Repro, but this Japanese Pop Art class is going to be interesting in the sense that my teacher is weird. A bostonian/wannabe cowboy teaching a Japanese class. hmmm. Oh, and we were taking notes and he was going too fast so someone asked “are these notes online?” “Im not sure yet.” “Well, can you slow down?” “Im not sure yet.” What a meanie! and a minute before he was talking about how crucial it was to take good notes… not sure how to do that when we cant get through a whole slide without he moving on to the next! grr.

Things have been so-so this first week for me. My seminar will be fine, we all know each other so it will be more fun than anything. My other class is sort of a pain because I have to walk like a hundred miles just to get to class. It has to do with time of day and where you’re allowed to park. The closest parking lot is quite a distance and it takes me at least 10 minutes to walk from my car to the building. I was surprised to see someone I know in the class, which I had been worried about prior to the first day. So things shouldn’t be too bad in that respect. My last class is the math (stats) class. It’s online and I’m already behind on the work for it. I need to spend some time reviewing because I seriously don’t remember even the simplest things. o_o

My work status is still undetermined. I’m really worried. Hopefully I find out soon, in case I need to drop a class. But I can’t drop a class because that will put me behind yet another semester. **sigh**

LBJ10, ugh, I hate long walks to class. It just sets the wrong mood for class. There is no way to walk between my two buildings, they are about 2 miles apart and you have to weave through a lot of other buildings and around sports fields and such. There is a bus that goes between them, but it takes around 15 min. It causes a lot of problems in scheduling bc all the classes end up being 10 min apart. I managed to avoid that problem, somehow, this semester!!!

My classes are wonderful, this semester! Printmaking is going to be so much fun. Ceramics will too. I was afraid of the prof bc he is scary looking and I had heard things… but he seems really great! Hist of Jap art will be alright.. the prof seems fun enough. Studio Methods will be really beneficial but I am going to struggle in that class. We have to keep a very personal journal and then share it with the class. Today’s topic, find 3 things in your home that are most important to you. Tomorrow’s, what is your greatest accomplishment and what is the thing you most regret” I don’t even know how to begin how to answer that!!!

I would have died if I had to walk that far in it. Not only was it cold (16 F), it was WINDY. It was gusting up to 35 mph and making the windchill -2 F. It was bad enough walking from where he dropped me off and my building. Right as I came around the corner, the wind started blowing really hard right in my face. It was hard to breath and the wind was blowing right through my coat!

I am not complaining much about either one, I love snow and I love warm weather. I can appreciate either one. I just wish it would make up it’s mind so I can get adjusted!

This feels odd to me. I have to go finish a pot done in the coil method today. I have a few sketches to start and I need to work on an outside painting.

I was looking at the proposed academic calendar for my school for the 2012-2013 academic year, and apparently they’re planning to start the second semester on December 30…what??? It’s still tentative and liable to change, but really??

I can work ahead if I want, but those two quizzes were indeed due today. I was surprised on Friday when I got my book, plugged in my code, and saw I only had 2 days to study!
I’ll probably take the next quiz tomorrow, actually.

I would NOT be showing up for classes for that entire first week if I had class starting in December! I usually either travel or throw a big party then.

And just to not get behind, I’ll probably be right there along with everyone else. I reaaaally hope they change it, haha.

After taking horrible finals I would like to be able to take a month off and relax, I like to take that month to also get a job for a few weeks to get some money in my bank before returning to school.

Apparently, in ADDITION to those 2 quizzes I had to take yesterday, I had 2 exams that were due to be taken in the testing center. The due dates aren’t on the syllabus, but hidden in the “exam” section. So the highest score I can get on them now is an 80 >.<

Idk how many of you remember this but I was having a career crisis about a week ago. I kept going to my classes and they didn’t get better and I was overwhelmed and losing my mind so after a long talk with my parents, we decided I should drop another class to focus on myself. I’m still taking two classes plus the PE credit (basically pay to use fitness facility- I did that for my knee). But I’m still feeling guilty about dropping it and taking so few credits. I hope I can pull myself together since I heard back from that four-year university and I’m meeting an adviser there soon to see if I’d like to transfer next fall. But enough about me, I think you all are doing great. I admire your ability to stay so focused and your passion about what you are going to school for.

LOL Seriously though, it is very easy to lose focus sometimes. I will start out strong, but drive sort of diminishes as the semester progresses. I’m hoping that since at least two of my classes are interesting, things won’t be so bad.

Haven’t done too much this week. I have just been reading the assigned readings and that’s it so far. I’m already having trouble with my stats class. I just don’t understand the material I guess. Plus it’s difficult to read the book because it is online. It is in Flash, so I can’t view it on my iPad. My computer screen is too small, so I’m constantly scrolling. Anyone good with stats stuff? I only ever did standard deviation, chi-square, t-test, standard error, etc and they said I would be fine in this class. I’m so confused though. =(
