Re-arranging living room furniture to accomodate bunnies…

Having the bunnies in the bedroom has really been bothering my allergies, so I’m hoping to shift them out to the living room, but to do so is going to require moving everything else around too.  There’s not room in the dining room or kitchen.

Nick currently sleeps in a crate in the living room and stays in his crate when I’m not home.  Initially, I kept their living spaces separate becasue I didn’t want Nick stressing out the bunnies.  However; I’ve been working with them, and Nick is calm around the bunnies now and the bunnies could care less about Nick.  I was thinking about possibly using the furniture to kind of make a barrier between the dog crate and bunny pen… but I’m stuck…

So maybe you can help?  I thought about putting up a floor plan of the apartment, but that made me feel too exposed on the internet, you know? 

So… The living room is about an 11″ x 22′ rectangle of open space… becasue the way the rest of our apartment is laid out, you walk past one of the short sides to get to the rest of the apartment, so the entire 11′ x 22′ space is fair game for furniture/pens/crates.

In the living room, I have a standard sized couch, standard love seat, standard coffee table and one end table.  Also a tv stand w tv (approx 3′ x 2′) and a desk (approx 5′ x 3′).  And then there’s Nick’s crate (appox 2.5′ x 3.5′) and a standard ex-pen.  I want the desk as well as the tv stand up against a wall to hide icky cords, but the rest of the furniture can be anywhere.  Also, the living room is fairly open and I’d like to leave as much open space as possible (while still looking nice) for binkies! Thoughts please?

oh my.  i have no idea sorry.   it took us severall different arrangement b4 we got it right.   

i do know yhat no matter where i put the couch cottons cage has to be next to it and next to me.  IF I move his cage anywhere else he freaks out.

HE won’t settle down til I put the cage back by the couch.

It’s tough to really try and think of how you can set-up. I have a long narrow living room too, and that is difficult. Can you have zones… tv/couch zone, bunnies at the other end?

i cad’ed up your 11’x22′ living room and added some furniture.  played with 4 different arrangements that i thought of.  maybe they will inspire you?  of course i guessed at what end your access in / out / through the room is so you may have to envision a flipped version.   I hope the jpeg image turned out dark enough to be ledgible.

okay my font size is a tad small but i think you can make out end table / coffee table / crate / tv / desk.

Did you include the bunny pen somewhere?

Hi,
I have a different suggestion, which is to put Nick’s crate in the bedroom where the bunny cage is now. That way you can close him in with you at night and the bunnies will be safe unsupervised while you/they sleep. It would cramp the bedroom, but not more than now probably, and you might even put a top on the crate to serve as an end table that he can go inside for sleeping. Then you can arrange the living room with one less box.

i misunderstood the assignment tho… after reading rabbitpam’s post i realize that nick and his crate is the dog. duh. there’s still lots of room to fit into the living room but i like rabbitpam’s suggestion too.

Thanks for all the help!!! I tried out a couple different layouts this weekend, and ended up going with something similar to C. I wanted the bunnies and the dog out of the bedroom for the sake of my allergies, and it worked out perfectly to have the bunnies on one side of the living room, and Nick’s crate on the other side, the couch between them. It’s been working out very well.
