Thumper began acting unlike his usually “energetic” self a few days ago.
He was showing signs of a decreased appetite, lethargic, small fecal pellets, dandruff, and looked
overall sick.
We waited til the next day or so to determine whether to take him to the vet, and he was back to his normal self, increased appetite and normal mobility.
However yesterday upon walking into the rabbit’s room yesterday morning (with a plateful of parsley),
Alfie seemed very very lethargic, and had no interest whatsoever in any food, water, or even pineapple juice. When I checked on the buns yesterday evening- he was on his side flopped out and would not get up. While this is his usual favorite resting position, he has never not moved upon entering the room- so I definitely knew something was up.
We honestly thought Alfie would not make it through the night last night- amazingly he did. However has not moved from his current position- we have been syringe feeding him Pedialyte throughout today, as well as a small amount of baby food. His pal Thumper has been laying by his side most of the day, to keep him company.
From what I’ve read these symptoms lead me to believe GI Stasis … or perhaps something more
severe??? Never heard of a rabbit stuck in the same position like this with that condition though. Been massaging his gut after meals.
Should I try to move him? He kicks out his legs every so often like he is trying to get up …
Wanted to see what you all had to say before moving forward, been proceeding by treating him as if he has GI stasis, and following home treatments from a rabbit friendly vet savvy site etc.
Thank you! All help is much appreciated
