My rabbit Cookie got spayed just less than a week ago and my vet never told me to check on her stitches (she didnt give pain meds or antibiotics either), but when I went to look just a while ago it seems like there’s something wrong… She isn’t bleeding and seems to be in no pain–in fact, she’s just her regular happy self but the wound seems open? All sutures I’ve ever seen are closed up nice and tight but she has a kind of hole and inside I can see something black. Its not very big or deep or even red or swollen. And there is no blood or pus (that I’ve seen, I’ve been trying to get a really good look at it) but it just doesnt seem right. Did she tear them out? Like I said, I never thought to check before because the vet never said I had to and I was letting her rest.
I’m going to call my vet as soon as they open but they’re pretty far away so is there anything I can do in the meantime? I have gauze and bandages… Should I wrap her stomach up?
Also, do you think there’s any way for another vet to just stitch her up? The vet I took her too is an hour away but she’s the only small animal vet around. But maybe since she has already been spayed a local vet could just put her under and put some more stitches in? I don’t know… I’m just really worried. She is my first rabbit.
