I have a bonded pair of 5 year old female rabbits. They are sisters and are both spayed. One of my bunnies was loosing weight rapidly so I took her to the vet. She lost nearly half her body weight and was pretty much skin and bones. The vet took bloods and told me that she has leukemia (she had never heard of a rabbit with this diagnosis) and to keep her comfortable, she didn’t think she had long left but said I would know when it was time to put her to sleep as the last thing I want is for her to suffer and waste away. This was about 6 months ago and I increased her daily pellets and veg and now she is a healthy weight (they have as much hay as they want at all times). Other than a scruffy coat that she doesn’t groom anymore she seems like a normal bunny. She is active happy and just as curious as she normally is.
She should have had to be euthanized months ago and I am wondering if anyone has any advice or should I just keep going like I am and monitor her? I don’t want to stress her out too much but should I take her back to get more bloods done?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
        Thanks

Hmm, it does sound a bit off. If it were me I would opt to either take her to a different rabbit savvy vet for a second opinion, or back to the same vet who did the bloodwork and redo it again.

There are lost of causes to weight loss and it could very well be something else that was causing it which eventually managed to self-repair. I’ve never heard of bunnies acting normal even after 6 months of being diagnosed with something as deadly as blood cancer, but I guess it’s not entirely impossible as well?

I agree with Kurotta. I would see what another vet has to say.
