Okay, so my sister found that our rabbit Noel has a weird fuzzy spot near the eye. She said it had the texture of mold and it kinda looks like mold as well. What could it be? Should we take Noel to the vet? Here are some photos of it:

Yeah I’d definitely take Noel to the vet. Looks like he might have a clogged tear duct or something as well the fur around Noels eye looks pretty bad too.

Might be what’s causing the weird mouldy thing

Is the fur around Noels eye crusty or wet? It looks like it from the photo.

Could be an eye infection or clogged tear duct or something wrong with Noels teeth even so make sure they check everything out. (Obviously if you have a good vet they’ll know what to look at)

Looks like tear duct clogging to me too. Try to dry her eyes (with your wet finger is enough) so that the hair doesn’t get matted and please take her to the vet for an evaluation. In case it’s her teeth, you want to know it as soon as possible to avoid her future discomforts

There is a bacteria ( Pseudomonas aeruginosa) that can cause fur to look a blue/green colour. It happens on rabbits with large dewlaps sometimes where it remains moist under the dewlap and bacteria can grow. It is opportunistic where there is moist dermatitis.

If it were something like this happening for Noel, it is probably a secondary issue. The fact that his eye is weeping and there is fur loss is the primary issue.
Is the spot a blue/green colour?
If it’s more a brown colour, maybe it’s fungal OR maybe it’s just part of his fur growing back in. But his weepy eye is more of a concern. Hope you can get him in to be seen!

In the meantime, you can try holding a warm compress against the eye. Many rabbits really enjoy this but don’t force it if Noel won’t allow it. Using a warm, wet teabag (chamomile if you have it) is good. Chamomile is known to have soothing, therapeutic properties.
