  Today when I went to clean my bun’s cage I noticed a very, very weepy eye. She’s prone to allergies and we even had her checked out for it before but she just gets weepy eyes naturally, however this time her eye is completely shut and covered in gunk. I think perhaps she might have gotten in a fight with one of my guinea pigs when I wasn’t looking (they usually get along spectacularly, so it’s quite surprising, but sadly very likely). I’m not sure just how bad it is, but I’m honestly very frightened that her eye is completely destroyed. I’m calling every vet in my area, but it’s Sunday and I live in the middle of nowhere so nobody is answering or willing to take her. I washed her eye gently with saline but it’s still gunky. I’m scared to touch it more in case I hurt something. She is still eating and drinking, which is good but I don’t know what else I can or should do. It’s really tough to get her in to see a rabbit vet since there aren’t any within a couple hours. Please, if you have any advice, I’ll be extremely grateful.

  Keep trying. Def sounds like she needs a vet. Any vet would do in this case as it sounds pretty urgent. Wish I could be more help.

  Injuries to the cornea can be very painful and cause a lot of weeping. Washing it with saline shouldn’t hurt anything, but you bunny needs to see a vet. Any vet should be able to put dye in her eye and see how bad the damage is. Most scratches to the cornea are not serious, but you don’t know until it is examined closely. If you do take her to a non-rabbit-savvy vet, just make sure to double check any medications you are given. Sometimes they are unaware that something that is safe for dogs/cats is not safe for bunnies.
