Very long and probably pointless read about what one little rabbit did for our household!

SO, when I got Ashe on Valentine's Day, Zach, my boyfriend, was less than enthused. Yes, he thought she was cute, but he wanted nothing to do with her after she grew up and became a "monster". If you read previous threads on her, she is a very assertive little girl, but she has gotten over most of her aggression issues. We had a lop named Korra for a few months, until she had complications during her spay and died unexpectedly.

Zach said we would never get a rabbit again, because he didn't want to watch me get so upset if I lost another one. Well, one day we were in the feed store getting some bedding for Ashe's litter box, and we stopped to look at the baby bunnies they had. They had two that looked like Korra… and I decided to hold them. Zach finally caved and said we could get one. I wanted one and he said we should get the other baby. Well, I went with the one he wanted since he was the one compromising.

IT WAS THE BEST DECISION OF MY PET OWNING LIFE

My boyfriend tried very hard not to get attached to the baby, but Moogle would have none of that! I believe that he instantly picked Zach for his best friend. At first I was a bit jealous, but I now realize that they BOTH needed a friend. Zach is one of those guys that holds things in when he's stressed and I have noticed that Moogle is an instant relief for him. If Moogle is put away while I'm at work or too busy to watch him, Zach brings him out. Zach can't walk past the X-pen and the rabbit goes crazy! If I walk past the X-pen he just snoozes, and I'm the one that brings all the good stuff like veggies, ect.

Their bond is so tight now that when Moogle goes into this cage for the night, he presses his face into the bars until Zach comes over to pet him to sleep! (Zach lays next to Moogle and strokes his face until he dozes off). He loves to be held by Zach, but doesn't like it much from anyone else. The two of them "binkie" around the house together playing sometimes.

If you ask Zach if he likes the rabbits, he still puts on his "tough guy" face and says, "They are okay," but the truth is, he is bonded to a big goofy lop and he enjoys every moment of it Zach is no longer stressed out when I get home. We no longer have petty fights because one of us is upset about something stupid. Moogle is a blessing, and I have not been so attached to an animal since my 17 year old cat, Banana died last year I think once in awhile you get an animal that is so special you can't explain it, and he is one of those animals. (I feel guilty for not thinking that about Ashe. I don't love her less and she is special in her own way, but there is jsut somethign about Moogle that just lures people in. Visitors start talkign abotu getting a rabbit LOL and I have to inform them of all the work that they are.)

Sorry this is so long, but I am just amazed at how one little rabbit can change a life so much

Man, it’s so cute when they do that!

I’m going to have to get some new pics today, since I actually have some free time. I went to grab the camera last night to take pics of them playing but it was over when I got back Moogle puts himself away in his cage when he’s wore out and just stays in there until his next burst of energy. Do your rabbits do that? I worry he doesn’t get enough out of cage time, because he spends most of it resting in his cage. It’s open all day on weekends, and 6 hours a day on week days, plus whatever time Zach opens it when I’m at work. I think he is only active about an hour a day total though :S Is that okay?

Awwww. So cute. My boyfriend wasn’t too into the bun idea, but he loves Powder. No one can say no to a special bunny (the ones that are sweet and not rabbitude filled anyways!)

And yeah it’s pretty normal for buns to not be too active. Mine sleep, run around for a few minutes, flop out, sleep, run around, sleep. Their most active times are dawn and dusk, so if you let him out around 4-5am you would probably see him active then. When I stay up late or wake up stupidly early I let the buns out to run around and they go nuts. Most of the time mine are just bundles of fur sat on top of A/C vents or behind furniture, or by the chairs. They don’t move unless there is a reason (like food). The more out time they get, the less active they are when they come out too – since it’s not the newness of “Oooh, new place to explore”

That is such a sweet story. Rufus is in the process of gradually winning over my housemates too. It’s so funny to watch when they start out so resistant and then you see them hurrying over for a pat

My mom had the same attitude about pets in general. Wouldn’t allow a cat/dog/anything with fur as a pet because she was “allergic” to fur. After adopting my first bun from a pet hoarding friend that all changed. Honestly I don’t think anyone can resist a bunny. They’re like kryptonite lol.

That’s awesome! So sweet that they’re such good buddies. I like it when people decide to give rabbits a chance and are totally won over once they see that rabbits are amazing animals with wonderful personalities.

I lost my dog a few years back. She was my first child. I had her with me when I was in college and then shortly after my husband and I got married she got sick and I had to put her down. She was only 12 and I always felt cheated that I didn’t get more time since she could have lived longer as she was a smaller dog. She was a once in a lifetime dog. I truly thought I’d never feel that way about an animal again. Then AL came along almost a month ago. It was love at first sight. He is my first bun and whoa! a ton of work! I was shocked for the first week! LOL. I have not been this fulfilled by an animal since my dog. Though my dog can never be replaced, Al is one of the most sweetest, silliest, smartest little guys. I am so impressed with how interactive he is and how much he has meant to me in such a short amount of time. I instantly felt like a new parent, paranoid that something would happen to him or that I had no idea what I was doing. Ha! I rush home from work just so I can get in my snuggles. If rabbits weren’t so much work or had such specialized needs, I’d tell everyone I met to get one! Now I don’t think I could live without one. (I haven’t broken that news to my husband yet…) I am so glad to hear that you are enjoying the life-changing bond between a special animal and their human. There really is nothing like it.

My cat Banana was like that, but more like a best friend than a child. I got him when I was 5, so that was probably why. He lived 17 years, so I feel like he lived a full life. I still feel like something is missing when I go back to my parents house. He was with me my WHOLE life until less than a year ago. Moogle is VERY special but he will definitely never replace Banana.

OMG Jessie, Banana? Love the name. I am so glad I am an “animal person.” Some people are really missing out.
I can see why Banana was your best friend. He was all you knew. It is always so hard to say goodbye.

Yeah LOL. My mom wanted to name him Buttercup -_- I said, “No! He’s a boy. His name will be Banana.” That is my earliest memory I have always had A LOT of pets. I’m not supposed to have pets where I’m at but that’s just not possible I had a rabbit in my first apartment, named Crickett. She was awesome. A lady walked into the apartment without permission and I think she sensed my irritation. Either that or it triggered her territorial behavior because she latched on the the ladies foot with her teeth. The lady was a drug addict and a thief, so I was very upset. She never came in after that again I LOVE rabbits. They all have amazingly unique personalities
