A few days ago, I heard my rabbit make this odd series of noises while laying down. It didn’t quite sound like a sneeze, but almost like a closed mouth burp, the sound a cat makes before it’s about to vomit (only softer), or a hiccup with a closed mouth. They are very subtle noises, but definitely new and possibly concerning. They happen one after the other, brief little noises, a pause, then the noise again. I has happened anywhere from 3-7 times in a row. Sometimes there are a few noises, a break of about 10 seconds, then a few more noises. I don’t notice it happening often, but I’ve seen it happen 3 times in the past few days.
A few years ago, I took him to two different vets about a clear/white discharge from his eyes, they told me it was fine, but gave me some preventative medicine just to be safe. He’s always had some clear/white eye-boogers that I clean off about once a week, and they’ve always been very minimal, so I don’t know if he’s actually sick with anything involving that.
Behavior wise, he’s been fine. Eating regularly, pooping regularly, and still very excitable, but it’s when he’s lounging that I’ve heard these sounds.
Does anyone know what these sounds could be? Are they bunny burps? Are they quiet sneezes? I’m worried that they don’t happen frequently enough for a vet to know what may be happening, so I want to see what you might suggest I look into before I bring him into the vet.
