Hello everyone 1 week ago my girlfriend bought me a bunny as a gift.

Me and my little dwarf bun have bonded very very good he is very comfortable around me playful and he fills me with joy.

To the point now he loves to lick my lips whenever he gets the chance he would start grooming my lips i have no idea if it is because he loves me or he likes the taste of my lips.. Anyhow my question is should i stop that behaviour purely from hygienic point of view?? I mean can i actually get sick from him licking my lips? I would love to hear your opinion on why he does that for starters and secondly if i can get sick.

I wouldn’t let my bunny lick my lips – they eat their poop! Of course I am slightly jealous that your bun would do that though, mine are nowhere near as friendly! Also did you know that the human mouth has more bacteria than the average toilet seat (whatever the average toilet seat is) so it might not be the best thing for your bun either

Well, the chance is higher that an animal gets sick from a human mouth. Human bites nearly always get infected because of our mouth bacteria. It’s a serious health risk if you get bitten by another human, and you’ll get a high dose of antibiotics at the ER. Same goes for most other omnivore and carnivore bites: high risk of infection due to pathogenic bacteria.

Rabbits are herbivores, herbivores have relatively clean poop low in pathogens. Our rabbit Breintje often licks our faces and sometimes steals the food right out of your mouth. In the possible case that the rabbit has parasites like worms, they could transfer them to others.

I would not worry about other health risk. It’s a real compliment that your rabbit grooms you, it means you’re best buds

Unless he has a parasite, I wouldn’t be too worried about you.

I wish my buns would give me kisses but I probably wouldn’t want lip kisses. Bunnies eat their own poop.

My little girl gives tons of kisses she licks my face (washing it) every morning and night. Guess I can’t keep myself clean to her bunny standards.

But honestly it’s a sign that your bun loves you, be happy many people wish their buns would show them affection like that
