So, our little Bug drinks quite a bit of water, and personally I figured it was quite a good thing he was keeping hydrated, since when we first got him he wasnt drinking much… but after reading, it almost sounds like his original consumption was more normal.
Currently, he can drink as much as nearly all of his 500ml bottle in a day, and he is only ~2 lbs (13/14 weeks old). He is on a hay only diet, due to his tummy issues, and very minimal plantain greens (slowly increasing amount, we are under 1/2 cup still.) It sounded like high end normal consumption for his size would be more like 100-150ml, so thats a pretty substantial difference… the vet didnt say anything when he went in for GI stasis, but it was also not the primary issue.
That said, his water consumption has mainly spiked since the vet visit, so I was wondering if many the medications he is still finishing may partly effect this? He is on his last day or two of is Metacam and Baytril. Would these possibly add to his thirst? He’s perfectly fine, eating pooping machine, a reasonable amount of peeing, happy binky runs here and there, and always hungry for more food (esp. alfalfa if he can get it!)
Since the vet he also had to change to hay only, which I know adds thirst. So I am not super concerned, I really think its the hay and meds, and even the heat to a degree, I suspect his consumption will start to slow down when he takes the last of the meds tomorrow or monday, but I figured id ask for a little confirmation on these factors adding thirst?
I saw a thread related to this issue, but I didnt want to hijack theirs to ask my question.
As always, many thanks!
