I’ve always gotten Oxbow timothy hay for my bun but recently (the last 2 batches I got), the quality has been very poor. I just received a new batch (it’s around 1kg I believe) and i can already hand pick handfuls of brown hay easily. Not only that, but when ‘digging’ deeper into the middle to see if the brown hay problem was just the top bit, I found that there was much more bunches of brown hay in the middle, and was mostly filled with dust and tiny (less than an inch) cuts of hay. Is this normal? The bags I’ve gotten before weren’t this bad.

I live in Australia and there are no retailers near me that stock oxbow so I buy these online, and so I can’t exactly choose the ‘best looking’ bag.

So, I am going to call them up tomorrow and possibly hope for a new bag and see how things go. But, I am also thinking about moving onto another brand that I have access to by an Australian online retailer. I came across Momi Hay and was wondering if anyone’s tried this or have not but looks alright to switch to? The website is http://momihay.com/Hay.asp?ID=2

Still trying to find another timothy hay brand I can have easy access to in Australia so if anyone knows of another, please share!! Thanks!

I’m not familiar with it, but Jerseygirl is from Australia and has been a member for a long time, so she might be able to help you. You could send her an email from the message center asking her to check out this post. (Tell her Rabbitpam suggested it, since we don’t usually encourage private discussions.) If she can help, it would be best to post her answer here where others can read it, too.

Also, you can ask BB if she ships to Australia. Here Mini Bales of hay are terrific.
If Oxbow sent a bad bag, they should honor it with a replacement. They seemed to have a particularly bad year not long ago, and it may be an older batch that someone sold you.

I’ve had such wonderful experiences with Oxbow boxes of hay. The box I got this spring is beautiful quality, probably the best box yet. I get the orchard hay boxes tho, so maybe the timothy is the issue?

Oxbow should definitely stand behind their product. They have very good customer service, so I would contact them and see what they can do.
