Okay, so I don’t have a rabbit as of right now, but this is more for research so its not urgent.

My question is, can I leave possibly a 50lbs box of hay in reach/in my rabbits cage area. The cage I’m going to set up is for preferably 2 Flemish Giants, and the ‘home base’ will be a Extra Large dog kennel, it will have a X-pen or something like that surrounding it, giving them more room during the day. I will have a hay rack inside the kennel regardless, but the one I ordered isn’t very big and I’m worried they will run out of hay while I’m at school. so would it be safe and sanitary (They won’t poop and pee all over it) to leave the box or part of the box inside the X-pen with the hay inside of it. I’m hoping it can double as a step so they can have the space on top of their Kennel also, but I don’t want to endanger their health.

An extra large kennel seems small for two flemmies. From google, they seem only big enough for one, and only if there is a pen attached (which you did state you will do). Since you said youre still doing research, I wanted to comment on this first. You need more space if you want two flemmies because what you have written is only big enough for one.

I tried a hay box instead of a hay rack with my bunnies, and they did end up pooping and peeing in it. I eventually gave up on boxes and racks, and just started to add hay to their litter boxes. They eat hay on one side and do their business on the other

Thanks, I’ll look for a larger set up
