  Hello everyone. I’m new to the forum, so please excuse any clumsiness. My new bunny, Fred, is quite the escape artist. He keeps getting out from his 3’x6′ enclosure. The sides are 28″ tall, made from storage wire blocks. How does he do that!? I haven’t been able to catch him at it. Even a large piece of cardboard on top of the enclosure wasn’t enough to keep him in.
  
  I’d appreciate any advice. Obviously, a taller wall is needed, but it almost seems like he’s able to climb, so that may not do it, either.

  Hm.. he could be able to get it by jumping most likely! Most buns can jump at least 3ft. They sure are good escape artists!
  
  However, I did meet a rabbit at the shelter where I adopted my bun who was known to actually climb up x-pen walls using her paws slotted into the holes! It was impressive, if not annoying for someone trying to keep her contained
  
  What many people do is add some sort of “roof” to the enclosure. Did you secure the cardboard in any way? I guess it is possible he nosed it off. This can be a simple as a bedsheet clothes-pinned to the edges.
  
  Any way you could video tape the area to see how he gets out?

  The cardboard roof was only minimally secured, so he could have squeezed through, if was really determined. Will have to tie it down securely. A video of him climbing would be pretty cool.

  Besides jumping over the sides or climbing up the sides, some rabbits can lift the pens up enough to get under them and escape that way. If there are rugs or blankets under the sides of the pen, a rabbit can sometimes bunch them up to aid in lifting the sides.
  
  Do you have a hidey box or any kind of platform inside the pen? Those can also aid a rabbit in escape, if they have something to launch themselves off of. It’s usually recommended that x-pens be 36″ high. With the wire grid panels, you would have to add a whole other level to what you have now, if you think he is jumping over or climbing the sides. Hopefully he wouldn’t try with 3 levels because that could be dangerous and make a large drop for him.

  Mystery solved! I got out the old camcorder and taped him. He took a big jump in the corner, held on with his feet, and pushed the cover up enough to get out. Pretty inventive, huh? So I’ll be adding another 14″ panel to the sides. So glad he wasn’t hurt.
