Put bunny back in old cage

Lux is completely a different bunny in this new cage. Very destructive and pees everywhere and is very bad at chewing. She was in it for two nights. Is it ok if she goes back into the cage she was in before

She’s not too happy with me now. Not really eating her greens and just looks pissed. Will she be ok?

If she starts eating again, she’ll be fine. She is probably pissed.

It has only been 2 days, I think that’s a bit soon to give up on the new cage. But you must of course do what you feel is best for her.

Will she be okay if you moved her back to her previous cage ? Is there something wrong with it, besides it being smaller ?

Nothing is wrong with the older cage I just thought it would be nice to get her something bigger. I mean she’s only 2-3 pounds so she’s not big. And she ate all her greens and some pellets. She seems to be back to normal in her old habits. Just she was so so so so destructive in the new cage we couldn’t take it. I think k it was too big for her. I feel bad but we never really had a problem with her in the old cage.

The new cage would be nice. I think the big problem I would have with it is their is no way to get into the bottom. I wonder if you can take the front bottom panel off and add a hinge and lock to it. Then you can get a litter box down, or like I mentioned in another post a big plastic bin that’s about the same size. it will probably take a few for her to settle down, but at least you can easily clean it while she acclimates.

One of mine is 3 lbs and one is 2 lbs. They live in a pen which is quite spacious for such tiny bunnies. Perhaps she just needed time to adjust ?

Might not of given her enough time but she was so comfortable in her current cage that I really didn’t need the bigger cage. She is back to her usual self now. Another thing with the new cage is that it had lose gates to open and she would constantly and I mean constantly chew at them
And shake the whole thing that would basically wake us up. Was not the same bunny she’s back to the one we love now ?

How much time does she get outside of the cage? I’d honestly only ever use a cage that big as a main base that they could constantly get out of. None of my three would tolerate a cage that small for more than a few hours, and even that would be pushing it. And one of my guys is a just a tiny little netherland dwarf who fits in my hand.

I’d really suggest getting an x-pen to go with it so there’s more room, or give the bigger cage another try. I know you said she was pulling on the bars at night, but that is a classic sign of boredom that’s not going to go away just because she’s not able to make the same racket in a smaller cage.

She gets out about an hour or two a day but I take her out a lot and play with her in the bed and all. She hasn’t chewed the bars really at all since put in her old cage and she has been in the for 3 months. She seems fine. Plus I don’t have a big apartment for a huge pen. Moving to Florida in late January and she will have a room to play in then.

That old cage is tiny, so I have to say I like the new cage better. But it isn’t I who are going to live in it. If Lux has decided old cage is the best cage, I think perhaps we should accept that.

What pen are we talking about? I have a 800 square foot apartment. Also how would u know if they were not happy?

Pens don’t have to be enormous, there are a lot of people who will just attach something like some zip-tied shelving cube squares to add a few additional feet to the existing cage to let the rabbit hop in and out as they so choose. (the squares themselves are about 14×14 inches, so you can make them to the size you want and just zip-tie them to the cage to extend the size)

The point people here are trying to get across isn’t so much that the cage is terrible, there just needs to be more room for your rabbit. If you’re willing to rabbit proof your space and let her out for a good portion of the day, it would probably work fine. Even using an x-pen that can be folded up and stored away when you’re done would work out well.

This is the cage I bought BB when he came home at a year old and about 2 lbs. Yes I’m aware it has a wire floor..I knew nothing at the time ! I did put cardboard down. He had no room to really move in there so he would just lay there. Which is the point we are trying to put across.

I used to let him out most of the day but when the cat had eye surgery I knew he’d need more space because I’d not be able to let him out much. So I had bought one of these for taking him to the back yard

He moved in there and that is where he and Josephine stay when I’m not home or asleep.

They aren’t designed to be ” laying ” around most of the time ( even though they do a lot, lol ? ) So if you are letting her out to run, then that is okay. I can’t recall the minimum amount of time needed ?

Adding the Nic cubes fastened with ties is an excellent idea ! I’d like to expand mine but for whatever reason these don’t have extensions for these pens.

It is obvious you care for your bunny and I’m sure you will do what you feel is best for her and your current circumstances

I absolutely love my bunny to death just I don’t have the room. Once she is spayed in 3 weeks I think we will
Leave her in the bathroom when we are not home it’s huge and wood floors. Would put a litter box in there. We let her out at least or try to an hour to two a day and take her out for hugs and kisses and cuddles multiple times a day. If we let her out now all the couches would be ripped up and poop everywhere.

I use a pen myself. However if I was really limited on floor space those cube panels would be great. You can make it any size you want and go up for multiple floors instead of a very large floor space.
