  I am in search of a buddy for zeus, and a breeder near me has a doe that she is retiring, free to a good home.
  
  Im wondering if there are any pros and cons to adopting a female rabbit that has had babies. Im not experienced or knowledged with breeding.
  She is almost 2yo unspayed, breeder says she is sweet but can her temperament change in time since she is unfixed?
  I also read that females have a shorter life span unfixed, or higher chance of cancer?
  
  I really want zeus to have a lifelong friend, so i was looking for a female that can be spayed or already is :/

  You’d be able to spay her. It might be easier for you to take Zeus on bunny dates to see who he meshes with best. Take him to a shelter and see if they will let you do that. It’s better than getting a retiring doe that you’ll have to wait another 2 months to attempt bonding. Just an option

  Im also checking animal shelters, but there arent any rabbits there, there was one that i wanted to bring him to see a month agi but when i called the next day she was adopted! I would love if he could go on a speed date, he seems like hed like a companion.

  Majority of unspayed females develop cancer so you’d have to spay her. You’d need to spay her in order to bond her with Zeus anyway. And you can of course spay a 2 year old rabbit so I really don’t see any cons about adopting this doe.

  Thank you for clarifying that sarah. I wasnt sure if theres a higher risk with her being older and getting spayed.

  As long as you can find a rabbit-savvy vet to do the spaying, there shouldn’t be an issue with the operation itself. I guess the main question is whether Zeus and this doe would get along on a “speed date”, if the breeder were willing to do such. Is she in overall good health?

  As long as you have a vet that is experienced, you should be fine There are risks of course, but there’s always risk to some degree with anaesthesia.

  Speed dates can be good, but I wouldn’t try one with an unspayed female or one who had recently be spayed. Hormones can cause a lot of aggression between buns, and a bad date with a hormonal bun doesn’t mean they could never bond… keep in mind that it takes at least a month and often longer for hormones to drain after a spay, so if you adopt her unspayed she would need to be kept separate from Zeus for a few months before you start bonding.
  
  If all this sounds fine to you then I would go ahead and adopt her She sounds like a sweetie, usually buns get only more personable when they are spayed, not less.
