Is this a thing? We’re on vacation and Ophelia is fine at night, but there are a lot of sounds during the day and she is obviously stressed. She sits on the bed and doesn’t want to eat much during the day, but will eat pellets and veggies when I offer. Is there a point to giving simethicone to prevent gas, or does it only work when gas is present? Since we are gone for a few hours at a time, I keep freaking out and I want her to eat every few hours when I come check on her, so she has. been getting more pellets and veggies than normal. I just try to make her eat something every few hours to prevent stasis since the closest exotic vet would still be an hour and a half drive away.

I think it only works when gas is present. I’m sure another member asked this not too long ago. I’ll see if I can find the thread!

Edit: Can’t find it. Maybe I dreamt it??

I also feel like such a thread exists. I don’t think you can do any harm in giving the simethicone even if there is no gas present.

lol Sarah I tried to find it too! I’m sure it is out there somewhere, but since I’m on my phone it is hard to navigate BB. I think I’ll give it just in case, along with making sure she eats SOMETHING every few hours when I come back to check on her. Unfortunately the airbnb we are staying in has to have plumbing work done to the upstairs unit (separate unit) so all the noise I think is scaring her.

It won’t hurt to give her it, so you might as well! Do you think playing a radio or something might help her? It might drown out the plumbing sounds?

Would ear plugs in your bun’s ears be a horrible idea? Just trying to think outside of the box.

It wouldn’t do any harm, but probably not much good either.

What about a white noise playlist, or the tv or radio to muffle irregular sounds? It might not be great still, but hopefully a consistent sound would be less stressful than random inconsistent sounds.

Sorry your holiday is turning out to be stressful!

I brought a fan with us so I turned that on a low setting for “white noise”. I hope they will be done today! I also put some herbal blend forage and some dried carrot treats mixed into her hay and she was actually in her box eating when we left, instead of huddled on the bed. I figure that she will probably eat SOME hay while she’s digging around for the yummy stuff
