› FORUM › THE LOUNGE › Problems in Adelaide… Jersey r u busy Sunday ;)
So…. There is this page on facebook for give away animals in Adelaide. I dont know if I am allowed to give the name on here.
I joined it 2 days ago, because someone I know had been posting on there and I wanted to check it out. There are about 20ish posts a day on there from people wih give away animals and animals for sale. Rabbits, pups, kittens, guinea pigs, horses… you name it.
So theres this guy on there who is responding to every single advert for free pets saying “Ill take it, Ill take it” Also several comments where you see that he has also taken free guinea pigs etc and said thank you.
well I noticed one post on there that said: I need a place to give me live mice to feed my snake.”
Then right above it another one that said “ I need some rabbits for free to breed”
Now Im no rocket scientist, but I had a fair idea of what he wanted to do with the rabbits, as I had seen that he had picked up several other free rabbits from this site a few days earlier.
So I held my tongue and posted on this wall. (you guys are going to hate this…)
“Free Rabbits, lots to choose from, can deliver.”
I did it so that I can get his address to report to the RSPCA .
Anyway, within 5 minutes he had replied to me asking if he could have my rabbits. I bit my lip and said “yes, how many would you like. What colour, breed, sex, would you like a neutered one or not, a lop or a standard?”
The response I got was, Ill take 8 for now , will take more later. Dont care what breed. want full males or females.
So by this point I was furious because I had seen that he was taking kittens etc too. And on another page he wanted to buy a part for his car and he actually told the guy that he would swap a couple of rabbits for this car part.
I went to bed really mad.
The next morning I woke up and took my daughter to school…. When I checked my Facebook, I had that many abusive messages from people around adelaide who knew me, and had seen that I had posted my rabbits as give away (you understand that I hadnt really…)
So I had to respond to all of them and explain… then I started receiving PHONE CALLS from ANIMALS AUSTRALIA (an organisation) who had heard that I was giving rabbits to snake people. So I spent a further 2 hours explaining to them on the phone what was going on.
Then I started getting messages from really feral people on FB asking if I can take them a few rabbits (everyone came out of the woodwork!) So they have been reported to the RSPCA now too thanks to Animals Austrralia.
But heres the best bit
The guy who has been feeding kittens, G Piggies, mice, rats, etc to his reptile collection has organised to meet me regarding the free rabbits on Sunday morning at a local shopping centre. I gave this info to Animals Australia. Now the SA Rabbit Rescue, Animals Australia, Animal Liberation, and the Animals Australia TV journalist are meeting him there (but he doenst know), and they are going to have a word to this guy about what he is doing (feeding rabbits to snakes) which is ILLEGAL.
If you guys have any ideas on how I can approach to have this page closed down it would be great. Brainstorming is awesome. Please help
I can give you the page if you would like to join. I got banned from it but typically this guy is still allowed to scout for food on there. he didnt get banned. Its so backwards.
Kafrn, do you have anything there like the FCC here in America that could find a way that these sites have broken the law, in which case it becomes a federal matter? That’s the only thing I can think of.
In the meantime….YOU GO! Holy cow, that is going to be one surprised snake charmer on Sunday! BWAHAHA!
Wow! Oh my gosh! I just got the site closed down on facebook with the post I made! Its gone! I wonder how long this will last?!?!?!?
MimzMum, whats the FCC? Maybe I can look into that! Thank you !!!!!
Good for you! *pops champagne*
FCC is the Federal Communications Commission. They have to do with all things TV, radio, internet, etc here in the states. But perhaps you won’t need anyone like that now. I SO hope that site is shut down for good. Nice work, you! (((((applause))))
Wow, I’m impressed! Good for you!
I just hope he doesn’t read this site so he isn’t tipped off. Did they get his personal membership info. from the site before/after they closed it down? Usually a site can trace a member, or law enforcement can. (Maybe only on TV shows?)
Anyway, that is very brave, so if he does show up, please be with someone next to you like a local police officer. He may be the property of the Animal control organizations when it comes to stopping him, but YOU are people and need to be protected directly from him. Nasty human.
Way to go!
Given it’s a facebook page – getting banned from facebook is probably all that can happen. Facebook admins would have his IP, which could be used to trace back to his home address, but getting that info from them would require a judge ordering them to release personal information. He is NOT allowed to use Facebook to break the law – so if you could send Facebook his user name, along with the law he is breaking and some screenshots of what he is doing, you could probably get his account taken down.
It is not illegal here in the states, so I doubt facebook is aware of the law, so be sure to include the official document with the report.
Kittens….he seriously feeds kittens to a snake??? What a soulless waste of space on the planet.
I’ve heard of being feeding rodents and rabbits, which I don’t like at all but wow I didn’t know people would go as far as using kittens too.
You go Kafrn! And please stay safe!
Katherine, someone who was mad about it getting reported made a new page for it. Just an FYI.
Sticker, alot of states actually have laws about feeding live animals to other animals. ![]()
I don’t know the laws surrounding this. I think it’s illegal here to feed reptiles live animals (mammals?) but I don’t know the specifics. I wonder if some people just find it entertaining.
There is not a law that stops this guy from breeding animals. He could easily deny breeding them for food. Any of the snake owners here on BB know more of the specifics around feeding them?
Can I pleeeeeeeeease have permission to post some screenshots of what happens on this page? Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease
I know the rules as specified by the RSPCA of South Australia.
Snakes in South Australia are to be fed fresh dead food, or frozen dead food (previously defrosted), unless they are of a rare variety in which case a licence for the specified snake must be obtained.
So then I checked on rare snakes in South Australia, there are only a few (less than ten) and I doubt this derro from Smithfield has one.
I’ll echo that you need to watch your back, Kafrn. This sounds like a dangerous group of folks if they are making new pages looking to revive the whole thing. Don’t go to that meeting alone, have a policeman to go with you. *nods*
Ive just been banned from the group again for saying that rabbits cant be desexed until around 6 months old. Why would you delete someone for saying that?! This is on the new “Adelaide Pets for sale / give away”
This woman makes me so cross. Why cant I comment?!
its ok Ill watch my back. Im doing a lot from a false profile. they dont know who I am.
I know they can be done earlier but some are late bloomers. I was just sayin ![]()
If you’re being banned continually, I’d say it’s a fair bet they may suspect who you are. Just be careful, please. People are kooky. 0_o
Monkey, do you have any information on those laws in the states? I can’t find any laws stating it is illegal – all the sites I have found say 100% legal. There are restrictions of course for “domestic” animals, but only ones I have found are for cats and dogs. I know of a few people who feed bunnies to their snakes and breeders who sell their “rejects” as feeders – so if there are any laws against these practices I would love to find them!
