has anyone ever used a pre-paid visa?  i had to cut my visa up a year ago because i was relying on it too much but i have to pay for a course online.  i’m wondering if i can put money onto one of those pre-paid thingys to use.  this would be a perfect option for me if it’d work.  might even add a bit extra on it so i can finally order from the bb store

I’ve had some before as gifts. The only problem I had with it was that if it say had 5 bucks left on it and my total was a20$ purchase, it wouldn’t take it because it wanted the entire amount. I imagine that if you are reusing it then that wouldn’t be an issue.

I was actually at a feedstore buying rabbit pellets when I had this issue. If it has the visa logo you are good to go. It could have just been the feedstores issue with their credit card machine too. It doesn’t make sense to not beable to use your money on it so…yea it had of been the feedstores problem and not my cards. I know I used up the rest of the money somewhere else if I can remember right… But I guess just beaware that this problem could happen? Idk.

i had a prepaid card last year because when i was filing for my tax return, that was the fastest way that i can get it.

it was good because you dont have to worry about your credit score and you dont owe anything.its your own money.what sucks about it is when i have to refill it,they always charge me $5 reloading fee.

you just have to find the best one that doesnt have those high anual fees and reloading fee

I’ve used them, and give them in set amounts for gifts sometimes (13-year-old girls prefer to buy their own clothes!) They’re great because you can use them online.

You might have considered this and don’t want to do it for some reason, but can you just use a debit card? I don’t like the pre-paid things very much because I always seem to have problems getting them to work in stores and I just give up. A debit card could be used just like a credit card and would take the money directly out of your account.

I agree w/Elrohwen – about the Visa debit card…my worries about the prepaid visa is any fee’s associated with it.

Prepaid is the perfect way to build credit…and without overdoing it…like …ahem I do if I can online shop for my pets…I got my credit cards taken away by parents a few years ago and I still don’t have one.

It’s inconvenient but really helped me build up my savings

I got paypal hooked up to my debit though so you can often pay for things that way, or I borrow Dave’s card if needed. But yes-prepaid would totally be the way to go, because not only do you still get credit points but you aren’t borrowing-which even if you pay it back you still pay MORE then it was worth.

Also this is what I learned about credit. You get points by payment not amount. (this applies to regular credit cards mostly) If your minimum payment is 50$ and you pay 50$ you get one point. If you pay 10$ five times -you get five points. Quick way to recover If your bad bad bad like me

You can definitely use debit cards online! Most websites and stores now accept them exactly the same way as a credit card – I’ve been to very few places that won’t take debit.

Absolutely you can use these on-line. If you don’t have a debit option you put it in as a credit card.
