My two bunnies Winnie and Flossy had their operation yesterday and have both been spayed. Flossy seemed a but withdrawn at first but picked up quickly. They are both eating fine, passing poo as normal, moving around and being active which surprised me! I have been given medicine to help them cope with the pain but they refuse to take it and it seems to be causing them more upset then good. I have tried giving them it through a syringe, I tried putting it on a treat but they left it, I tried putting it on their favourite veggies but they ate around it so I’m not sure what else I can do. I’ve read a lot about how important it is to give females pain relief after spaying, however they both seem to be recovering well from the surgery. So my question is, should I be forcing them to take the medicine or should I leave them if they seem otherwise happy? I’m not sure what is the best thing to do for them. Thank you!!

I’m very glad to hear that they are recovering well from their operation. While it is obviously ideal that you give them their pain meds as they are bound to be experiencing some pain post surgery, the fact that they are acting quite normally, eating and drinking and pooping as normal makes me less worried that they are refusing it. If they weren’t coping well and weren’t moving around much or eating etc I would definitely be trying to get those pain meds into them ASAP, but as you say they are bouncing back well, if you are struggling to dose them, I wouldn’t worry too much about it
