Post Neuter – still minor issues with droppings

I am not entirely sure if this goes under diet and care or here. But I think it’s behavioral. Licorice was neutered in March. He never had issues with the litter before really – just some territorial droppings scatterings. I was told it would end after the neuter. It didn’t. No matter what – he drops a few little “markings” around his cage and near the screen that separates him and Chipper usually (the boys call them “turd bombs, LOL)

Any ideas here?  I put them back in his cage…. he leaves one or two more. *sigh*

Honestly, this is normal for rabbits to do this even if they are neutered. Especially with other animals in the house.

It isn’t unusual to have a little bit of territorial marking occur when there is a “strange” bunny in the house. I know Chipper isn’t new, but since they are not bonded it could be a constant source for Licorice to feel the urge to mark. The quantity should still decrease over time though.

Bunnies aren’t perfect. It’s perfectly normal for them to leave a few turds to let you know “this is MINE!”

Bumpy was neutered about 6 months ago. He does not leave any droppings anywhere in the house, EXCEPT in “his area”. I’d say he’s 95% using his litterbox for poop, maybe a little more. I’ve witnessed him eating hay in his box, see the dogs walking off or me walking in his general direction, and fly out of the litterbox (STILL MUNCHING HAY), poo balls popping out after him, and run up on us to see what he can get. So for all I know, he could be 100%, but easily distracted?

I know when I used to use the dustpan in his area to try and keep it tidy, I would find myself doing it a few times a day. I eventually began to lose my OCD about it, and slowed to once a day.. every other day. Whenever. What I found was the poop wasn’t piling up, yes it was there, but not really MORE. So! I don’t know if he was beginning to poop less because of the neuter and waning of the hormones, maturing, or because the poops he was leaving around were staying there and he felt no need to re-mark.

Remembering your previous posts, I’m guessing you will probably always have a few scattered in that general area, but maybe a little less with more time passing post-neuter.

LOL – “lose my OCD over it.” That’s me. Except I cannot. I make the boys sweep though and clean it up. I do it too at least once a day – I think basically he’s putting back though what I’m cleaning up! Grrrrr – tiny turd factory.

I have to admit – I had to giggle when I overheard my 7 yr old say to him “Licorice, I know you leave your turds as presents, but they are not the kind of presents mom likes.” Ha!!!

As long as it’s normal and not something that’s going to worsen, I suppose it’s just part of the package. And it’s a cute one overall, so it’s tolerable. =)

It really will probably will lessen. It still drives me crazy, so I’ve been practicing not looking in his pen. When I do look in that direction, I focus on specific objects: litterbox, water bowl, veggie plate. Though the random poos like to congregate around the water bowl sometimes. I didn’t sweep his pen out for almost a week, and there couldn’t have been more than 25-30 strays laying around in there, so that’s a HUGE difference. I wonder if I swept them out like before, if he would start doing it more to replace them again.

When I first got Bumpy and posted here, I mentioned maybe needing the dustpan and brush surgically attached, so I know exactly what you mean!

Oh see – he’s not in a pen – so he’s leaving these little “gifts” in my office! If it was in a pen – well then I’d say suit yourself silly bunny. But he’s leaving them all around me… while I work. LOL Love you too buddy! Glad to know I’m part of your territory. Today he honked/squeaked at me and nudged me away from cleaning them up – well then, have it your way for now.
