I just got back from about a month away from my bun to find him in full shedding mode. It’s mostly standard, except a lot of the fur on his lower back/butt is thick, wet, and clumpy. I’ve been able to separate most of the mats with my fingers and a lot of the fur has come out easily, which he seems okay with, but then I noticed this bald spot with white scabs (at least I think they’re scabs) on his leg when he stretched all the way out. I’m pretty sure there are more spots on his butt, but he won’t even let me investigate without running away (edit: second picture added, that’s a spot on his butt).

What do y’all think? Has anyone had experience with mites? Is the butt a common area for them? Can this be treated without a vet?

Would also love if anyone has experience with that kind of constant wetness–is he peeing weird? Is it cause for concern?

        Thanks in advance!

I would suggest taking him to a rabbit savvy vet. A normal healthy bunny would not have their rear area constantly wet. Usually it is caused by something.

I think most cases of mites are found in the ear area, not sure if the rear is a common place for them. The crust could be linked to the wet rear issue too so it’s best to have him examined at a vet.
