I made a post earlier talking about how Emmett started peeing inside because of a UTI (BTW Emmetts a cat) Well the next day we called and called for him and wouldn’t come inside! The next evening he came home smelling like horses and with a 2 cuts on his head, a chunk of fur missing, and one of his eyes was swollen shut. He was a very dopey but ate his caned food fine. The next morning we already had an appointment set up for his URI so we called and made sure we were able to get his cuts checked out then to. Well… they weighed him and he had lost a whole pound or more and when they shaved the fur away from his cuts, we were shocked! The cut that looked like a small hole was about an inch to an inch and a half long and a half an inch wide! It was so awful! My mom felt so bad because she didn’t know how bad it was but it wasn’t her fault! The smell we were smelling was the puss eating away at his skin! The had to put him under to stitch it up! I think my mom is going their now to bring him home and we dropped him off at about 12:00pm! He will have to wear a cone so he wont rip his stitches out. I feel so bad for him!![]()

Aww, poor baby. That’s why my kitty was an indoor-only kitty. I didn’t want anything bad to happen to him. =(
I imagine he will be kept inside now since he will have that cone on. Are you able to keep him in one room so you don’t have to worry about the peeing thing?

This wouldn’t happen within a 24 hour period, I wouldn’t be surprised if he had that cut under his fur for awhile and then it ended up getting infected. That may have been why he was peeing outside the box as well, or even a contributing factor to the UTI. Hopefully once he’s all better and the infection’s under control, he’ll go back to using the litterbox 24/7.
I’d also highly suggest keeping him indoors at all times. Outdoor kitties have significantly shorter lifespans, and can end up being more costly to keep healthy as they can get injured in so many ways being loose outside.
He had been inside since he came home. He didn’t move all night and just layed in the cat bed in my moms room. He will most likely stay inside until he is healed up since he had surgery, Well got put under. All of our cats are indoor outdoor so he will go outside again. They did a urine culture to see if they could figure out why its not going away. I have no idea what that is though. Could someone explain it? Still waiting for my mom to get back. I will update you when he does.

Perhaps he needs a different type of antibiotic? I don’t know a ton about UTIs in cats, so can’t offer much advice outside of that, sorry. ![]()
I would really suggest making the kitties indoor only cats, if not for their health than for your mom’s wallet! But I understand that decision probably isn’t up to you.
He just got home! They had to dig down in the cut and saw that his scull was cracked! POOR THING! He has to leave the cone on for 14days until we can go back and get the stiches out. He can not run, jump, or go up and down stairs until then. AWW! :'(
Yes the decision is not up to me sadly! Emmett had been missing Monday night. We know that before then he didn’t have the cut but I don’t know when it happened between then.
A urine culture? A culture is where they take whatever substance (urine in this case) and grow it up on a plate to see what kind of bacteria they can identify. Some antibiotics only work on certain types of bacteria, so when an initial round of antibiotics doesn’t work it’s common to perform a culture to try to narrow down further treatment options.
Get well Emmett!
Poor kitty. ((((Get well soon, Emmett))))))
We think he may have been having hallucinations. Twice he was sound asleep and the flew two feet in the air and ran away and came back looking scared and sniffing. One time he was on my mom when he did that and he scratched her and we think bit her too. We talked to the vet about it and they said the pain medicine could cause them but we gave him the last dose yesterday so if they continue we have an appointment setup for monday to make sure its not brain damage and have to put him down. Alot of people think we are spending more money on him then he is worth and we
should just put him down because he is biting people. But he only bit one person and he is the sweetest cat and would never and has never bit anyone except that one time when he was scared. My mom is still very sore today from the bite! I hop he doesn’t have brain dammage
Thats very sad. What is the vets prognosis
The vet said only to come in if it happens again or he had other weird things happen, but since he has been off the pain meds (he had his last dose a few days ago) he hasn’t had anything wrong. He goes to the vet on next week Thursday to get his stitches out.
