Earlier this year my rabbit pumpkin got gi stasis, and ever since then I’ve been giving her hay on the floor of her cage to encourage her to eat more. For months I’ve been trying to get her to eat out of a hay feeder or her litterbox, but she wont do it. She will not eat one bite of hay unless its laying on the floor of her cage in this one exact spot.

I’ve never had too much of a problem with it other than the mess it makes until today. I just watched her sit right beside her litterbox and eat her hay off the floor, then when she was done and walked away there was a huge pile of poop right in front of her litterbox. I cleaned it up and a little while later I look again and there’s more. She has a very big litterbox so it’s not too small for her and she has never done this until now. Does anyone have ideas to get her to eat out of a hay feeder or her litterbox? I’m worried she’ll start peeing there too.

I moved it to the behavior section for you!

Maybe you could add a very low sided litter box to the spot where you currently pile the hay, and then just pile the hay in the box?
