POOP?

I know this is kinda a weird topic but I need to ask. Gizmo is slowly learning to go potty in the litter box, and I noticed that his poop is coming out in chunks, like its a bunch of little pieces stuck together. Is there something wrong? Did I change the food to fast? I mixed up the old food with the new food. Also Thumper is perfectly fine. Is it something I should worry about? And I was thinking about trimming around his fluffy bunny butt, because poop gets stuck on his bottom. Is that okay or should i not cut it?

Sounds like cecals. Do they look like grape clusters? These are “special” poops that rabbits will eat to reclaim nutrients.

It isn’t unusual for young bunnies to over produce them. It just means they have a rich diet. Once they are on an adult diet, then it typically resolves itself. I wouldn’t be too worried at this point.

I’m guessing you mean like a big smelly shiny chunk of poops clumped together(?) which are cecals. These are fine but bunnies usually eat them. If your bun is producing excessive cecals it tends to mean they are receiving too much nutrition, but it’s common in baby buns and buns who have just been brought home, so in this case it’s probably just a reaction to the change in diet. My buns had a few days of extra cecals when I first brought them home and changed their food. I wouldn’t worry!

It’s a pain cause they stink and are a bit of a mess to clear up, but I wouldn’t worry unless it continues to happen.
How fast did you change the food? It’s important to be careful because they have sensitive digestive systems, but it sounds like you know that!

As for his butt.. I’m surprised he’s not cleaning it himself. How much poop are we talking? It’s not really a problem unless it’s really stuck down there and causing a blockage. If it’s just a bit I’d leave him to it, he’ll probably sort it out.

okay thank you I am glad Its nothing big (AND IT DOES KINDA LOOK LIKE GRAPES) LOL !! And about his but, its only a little, just gets caught on his fluffiness. I am so relieved!!

Yep, if they’re stinky they’re *almost* definitely cecals. As Megabunny so eloquently put it, Bleh!

Why is it that whenever they do leave behind uneaten cecals, mine never seem to leave them IN the litterbox? Is there some unwritten bunny law that says, “Never leave cecals in litterbox because you might step in them. Always leave them on clean fleece, rugs, or carpet so Mom is sure to see them. If she steps in them then she will be sure to clean them up.”
