Poop everywhere!

I just adopted my first bunny and he is a little over 2 years old. This will be his third (and last) home in that time. He moved in on Sunday so it hasn’t been that long. He has a cage that I adopted him in that is much too small so I bought a play pen and he has about a 5×5 area now. He poops everywhere. Everywhere! I was told he was litter trained and only went in his cage.I threw his old bed away because he was peeing in it and is not peeing and pooping in the new bed I got him. I have been reading a lot about how he is just marking his new area. They are all fecal matter according to a picture I found on here. He does eat them though, so I’m a little confused. I haven’t found a vet yet but don’t want to rush him in either if he is just adjusting.

 

 I have read I should limit his space until he gets used to the area but I work 8 hours a day and feel so bad for keeping him cooped up for that long. I know it’s only been a few days but I’m concerned.

 

His previous owner let the foster lady know that lettuce gives him diarrhea but she was feeding him these pellets with colorful chunks that I read are full of sugar and not too good for him, and there was just a full bowl of it in his cage. I am limiting the pellets more, according to another source, and providing him with a lot more hay. Which I thought might be another reason for his poops.

 

I bought him a grass ball and he isn’t too interested in it but he will hop around and is getting braver. He hopped down the hallway twice in the last couple of days and came rushing back to his area but I was happy he is exploring a little.

 

I have read over the forums but thought a little advice on my specific situation couldn’t hurt. I want him to be happy and healthy but would prefer not to have to pick up little bunny poops 3 times a day.

Is he neutered? That will make marking less if not. And yeah, new area, new home he is going to poop a bit. Keep him confined a little while in his pen and put all stray poops in his litter box, along with paper towels soaked in pee if he pees outside the box.

He is neutered. All of the bunnies from the adoption place I got him from are and I made sure of that before because of the spraying and health issues.

for the poop, maybe he is marking the place. if you want to wash it i would say not to use some strong stuff because he will mark it again, maybe some vinegar might help.

maybe he just needs to get use to the new place.

if you have other animals he might smell them and that maybe a reason.
