        Hi all,

I recently bought my 2nd rabbit, Potato and she was born on 20th September. Our first rabbit, Taro, was about a year old when we introduced Potato to the cage.

When we first introduced them to each other, we kept keen observations on their interactions and behavior to make sure that the older one wouldn’t bully the younger one and that there wouldn’t be aggressive behavior.

After watching them closely for a while, it appeared that Taro was just avoiding Potato at all cost but didn’t bother with her or attack her. Potato on the other hand would follow Taro every where and snuggle up next to her whenever possible much to Taro’s annoyance.

Over time, as Potato grew older, we concluded that the two of them could get along and everything was fine. However, recently, I noticed this indistinct patch on Potato’s head which I cannot seem to understand. I’m not sure if it’s dried blood or exposed skin or a scar or infection but I believe that it is due to a bite from Taro. I am not sure if the thing protruding out might be a bone. I also noticed that her eyelids are pinkish/red.

I am really worried about Potato and I really wish to find out what’s wrong… Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

        Please help!!

        Thank you.

She’s cute. Honestly I cannot tell a thing from the photos. Have you tried cleaning it to see what you can see.

I think her eyelids are fine.

Do both eyelids look the same? If one is different it may be something, but like Sarita I think it looks just fine.
The bump on her head-I’m not sure-it doesn’t exactly look like a shedding bald spot. Have you taken her to see a vet? They could get a much closer look and it may need treatment depending on what it is.

Eyelids look normal to me. I agree with the others, you can’t really see anything in the picture of her head. Is it crusty like a scab? Perhaps there is fur stuck in it? It’s really hard to tell. I would have a vet clean it up to have a look. If you do it yourself, you may undercover something that bleeds and it would be better if a vet was on hand to take care of it.

Before putting rabbits together, both need to be spayed and/or neutered. You mention that Taro is a little over one year old, but you don’t say if she is spayed or not. If Potato was born on Sept. 20 (I assume this year), then she is only 8 weeks old, so she of course wouldn’t be spayed yet. It will be a few months more before she is ready for that.

It is really best to keep both of them apart until they have had their surgery. You can keep them in cages side by side so that they can get to know each other.

When in doubt head for the vet… Even if it turns out to be nothing it is better not to wait anytime you have concerns and don’t know what is happening. Early intervention can save you a lot of money and grief.
