I came home from work today to find several soft, wet feces at the top of Bella’s litter box, and when I picked her up to check her the fur around her bum is a little dirty (not terrible) but what really concerns me is her rectum is red, swollen, and visibly throbbing!! [Pictures attached]
In retrospect I should have suspected something was wrong sooner, she’s been pooping EVERYWHERE lately and they looked smaller/drier than usual but seemed to be getting back to normal when I increased her fresh veggies. She has also lost a little weight in the past 2-3 months but she continued to eat/drink/poop as often as before and seemed in good spirits so I wasn’t too worried about it. Now of course I am VERY worried, and it’s compounded because my first bunny died from digestive issues when I was pretty young and I still feel horrible about not doing more for her (this was before google and the advance of easily accessible information, so we relied on the word of the breeder who didn’t know poop from applesauce when it came to rabbit health).
I don’t have an emergency vet in the area so I’m hoping to get her to my regular vet in the morning, in the meantime does anyone have any idea what could be going on and how I can help her? I have never been this attached to a pet before, but I love this little rabbit so much! Please help!
