Playpen for Bunny?

Olly is my little baby, but he won’t let me hold him, fair enough I tell him and let him run back into his cage, I let him out of his cage to clean him out but he runs under my bed gets stuck and cries, or he runs behind my fridge in my bedroom, Fridge in the bedroom? Yes its for my medicine, I panic even though the wires are strapped up, next to my fridge is my PC I use because I’m a Chat room Moderator, I have microphone, camera and printer wire and electrics out of his reach but he can now stand up and stretch to look at them, again I get worried,  so I’ve had this idea, if I get him a baby playpen and ask my friend to put chicken wire on it so he cannot get out, the one I’ve seen is wooden and very big, it will be flat on the floor, I’ve also thought that maybe if I sit in a corner of it he might come to me and sit on my lap, yes lol a 38 year old woman in a playpen, do you think this will work to keep him away from wires and to help him come to me? I don’t want him to feel trapped, I have tried laying on the floor with a treat in my pocket and making him come to me but he finds running behind the fridge and under my bed getting stuck more fun.

Have you thought of using an x-pen? That would be a lot easier than trying to transform a baby playpen. It’s recommended that people should get the ones that are at least 36″ high so that the bunny hopefully can’t jump out. They come in taller sizes too. If you have enough space, they can be opened to their maximum diameter, or you can fold some sections in to make a smaller pen. The x-pens will fold up flat when you aren’t using them. You could certainly sit inside of one with your bunny.

I’ve looked at those pens, thing is he is very very strong and big for his age, I’ll ask them at the Pet store on Tuesday what is best, thank you tobyluv

personally I would never trust the people working at pet stores, their job is to sell.

How big is your rabbit? I have a 42 inch exercise pen and its rather heavy I am fairly sure it could contain my 11 lb dog.

Yes, as Elliriyanna suggests, how about a doggie exercise pen? I used one of those when I first got my rabbits. It is three feet high, which they are not able to clear when jumping. I sat in the pen with them during play time and I think this helped them get used to me. I also started hand-feeding pellets. This made my rabbits very interested in me (I keep treats in my pockets and distribute them at unexpected times, to keep them interested).

Bramble has never managed to get out of his pen, despite being able to actually break his cage open at one point. Since the cage is designed to keep him in and he was able to destroy that, I would say that the pens are pretty much secure. We have a 48 inch high one (Bramble is quite a big bunny) which is something like 6 foot by four or five foot and it was really cheap off amazon, much cheaper than they sell for in pet shops. If you get one and you are really worried about it not being strong enough, you can reinforce it with cable ties if you feel the need. I plan on replacing the metal connectors with cable ties at some point to stop it rattling when Bramble shakes it, if I can figure out how to get the metal connecters off that is.
