I took these photos of Dallas last night. 3 days after his enucleation surgery. The surgery site itself is healing beautifully!

nom nom nom!

This is his “I’m VERY grumpy with you” face. This is the best post-medication-picture! Lol, he despises it.

His left side, the no-eye side. He’s in kind of a funky position, it was before he stretched his back legs all the way out, so they were kind of propped up under himself!
Also, forgot to mention in the other thread explaining everything that the family friend who somehow allowed him to get into this condition, refuses to answer any phone calls from me or my family. They’re moving to California in a few weeks, and I’m getting the idea that we won’t be speaking before that, if ever. Why she’s not responding to our attempts to contact her is beyond me. Personally if something like this happened to someone’s animal while they were under my care – I’d at LEAST explain how terribly sorry I was I didn’t notice. Seems the decent thing to do, IMO. Amazing how someone can change in front of your eyes..
I still have a hard time with the explanation that she supposedly ‘didn’t notice’.
My guess is, something she did or someone around her did caused injury to Dallas’ eye. And she was hoping it would resolve itself or working up a good story in the meantime to cover it if not.
Even if they are moving, if you want some recompense, you should at least file a grievance. It would seem the relationship is a closed door anyway.
BTW, love the second picture. That’s one for Disapproving Rabbits! ^_^
Glad to hear he’s healing well also. Poor little bub. I hope he gets back together with Duncan soon.
That second picture is soo disapproving! I hope he continues to heal nicely
Some people are just unbelieveable..
Well, the important thing is that Dallas is home and he’s safe and take care of with you. I have no idea why your friend is acting this way but at this point you may not find out. I think at this point, I would not dwell on it since it’s just going to cause you anxiety and you don’t need that at all.
Dallas is so handsome too. Hugs to you and to him. He’s in your good hands and healing and that’s great.
Dallas is such a cutie! The second picture is priceless!
He looks like he is healing well and getting settled!
More healing vibes for Dallas! So glad he got through the surgery and it was a success. He is looking good and strong already!
I am puzzled by the behavior of your friend also, but people disappoint, what can you do.
hugs.
So glad Dallas is coming along well.
He kind of reminds me of someone….

Awww what a Mr. Grumpy pants!
But that’s a sure sign he’s feeling like a normal bunny again!
Again, I’m so sorry you had to go through all this with poor Dallas and that other person. Sarita is right, the important thing is that Dallas is home and recovering now, and you don’t want to dwell on it, since the bunnies will pick up on any negative vibes. However, it might bring some closure for you if you press charges.
(((continued healing vibes to Dallas!))) Maybe I missed it in the other thread, but is Dallas back with Duncan now?
Thanks everyone! That is what I’ve been thinking about the fact that he’s home and getting well, and not dwelling on things because I don’t want him feeling like I’m angry or upset. Glad I’m not the only one thinking that
Barbie; I’m not sure if I posted this on the other thread or not, but I did put Dallas and Duncan together, and they acted like they’d never been separated!
Only thing is I really need to see how much Dallas is eating, drinking, and pottying – and if they’re together, I can’t keep track. They are separated with their pens pressed against each other, and they go in with each other for a few hours every day when I can watch them. I won’t have any trouble putting them in together 24/7 once he’s recovered!
Ah I see, well that’s good that they’re still best friends even after being apart. Yeah, I understand wanting to monitor his eating and pottying.
RabbitPam, the bun reminds you of snoopy? Me too when I saw it..
I’m glad little guy is recovering. Man.. I don’t know how people can do that to buns. ![]()
lol…The infamous “Snoopy as Vulture” print. That does look like Dallas! ^_^
Wow, I didn’t know they had been together again! I thought I read that Dallas was lunging and chewing the bars, but I thought it was an aggressive stance…maybe he was just glad to see Duncan?
^_^ That they’ll be able to get back to being good ol’ buddies again after all this is champion!
Glad to hear it!
The surgery site does look great!! You can see some of the loose skin in his flanks. This is from the weight loss? Did your vet advise any diet change for that?
I’m happy to hear he and Duncan will have no issues. It’s hopefully all onwards and upwards for Dallas from now on.
Dallas looks great – definitely on the mend!
Hooray!
(((((((((((((((((Dallas!)))))))))))))))))
I am so glad to hear that everything is going well with Duncan… We were so worried about him.
Not to harp on this, as perhaps it might be best just to move forward, but you could look into filing a civil suit or some kind of grievance regarding animal cruelty and neglect. It seems that you have kept good documentation of everything, and this is an extreme case of complete disregard for the well being of an animal.
Anyways, sending more good healing vibes to your lil one.
Aw, he is beautiful! I’m happy to hear he’s healing up well.
They’re probably avoiding you b/c they don’t want to get stuck with the surgery bill. That’s my guess. I agree that you could file a civil suit if you wanted to pursue it, but if not, good riddance to them.
Mimzmum; No, you’re correct
When I let them see each other through cage bars the day after he came home, he was aggressive towards Duncan, so they didn’t go any further than that, just had their pens next to each other but spaced apart. I gave Dallas his pain meds, and he was much more a happy fellow after that. It was either late that night or sometime the next day(yeah, this brain is still verrrry scrambled! haha) that I let them meet through the bars again, and he reacted completely different..either saying hello or just ignoring him and being comfortable around him, so I let them meet without something separating them and they were great
Happily for Dallas, he had his last dose of one of his meds today(well it’s 2am, so yesterday)! And suddenly he’s eating like a total cow(LOL no offense to Dallas!), so hooray!!!
Jerseygirl; Yes, the lose skin, etc. is from weight loss. He’s still very sunken in and skinny. No, the vet didn’t advise any changes. Mainly thinks he should stay on what he’s used to(as he’s always been very fond of all of it). Only real change is he’s free fed on pellets right now.
Thanks again everyone!
Edit: The funny thing about if she’s trying to avoid the surgery bill is that it really was not that large for a surgery like that. I went into the vet expecting to be putting down a good 4 to 5 hundred dollars for the surgery. Instead, they gave me a “high estimate” of $254 and low estimate of $224 for everything. Of course, once he had to stay there over the weekdend and have basically a 2nd surgery, I expected it be a lot more. Total came out to $290. I don’t know..maybe it’s just me, but that seems awful inexpensive for everything they did!!!
It surely does! 0_o But hey, who’s going to argue, eh?
I’m just glad Dallas has come through okay and (yes!) no more medicines! ^_^ I bet he feels a WOOT! coming on!
(P.S. Pip has suggested begging for Oxbow cookies would help Dallas gain his weight back, she says it works for her beautifully!) ^_^
I’m so glad he’s bouncing back from it, he’s a tough little cutie! Glad his attitude towards Duncan was just him being ouchy and cranky after surgery too, and not a permanent thing. Yay for best buddies!
Monkey says raisins and craisins and apple are good for feeling better too. lol
I’m glad the surgery was that inexpensive. It could have easily been several hundred dollars.
